Hi all
Next month we're travelling down to
Canberra with the camper trailer to show the kids all the sights. Can anyone recommend a good caravan
park to stay at ? Checking them out on the web they all seem pretty ordinary for the money that they charge. Any personnel recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks Jon

You could try the one at EPIC, (Exhibition
Park In
Canberra), in other words the showgrounds.
It seems to be popular and it's close to town.
While your showing the kids the sites, take a drive out to the Brindabellas.

Eagles Nest I think on the way in from the North (Federal Hwy) is reasonable or some good
camping sites out toward Casurina Sands (Cotter River) Don't think they charge there but nice outlook. Not sure I'd leave it there for the day while we went sightseeing though. Nearly 20 years since I called it my backyard.
OItherwise Queanbeyan would have some Parks.

Happytravelers - we stayed in the Motor Village Motel and Caravan
Park in O'Connor which was very good - must state that we only stayed in their units. And this was about 5 years ago.
O'Connor is very close to the city and Black Mountain.

We stayed at
Canberra Motor Village in Kunzea St.
Is on the way to Belconnen but only 3 or 4 mins from CBD
Is an old
park but has large drive thru sites and clean facilities.
Was pretty bleak in early April when we were there but had an enjoyable stay.
Canberra is never hot Im told.
As the public service people say the best view of
Canberra is from the back of
a bus heading somewhere else.
No really its a nice place and has changed a lot since I was last there in 1964
when i camped out where there is now a great big
lookout on Mt Ainslie.
Go up the
Telstra tower for a great view.
Cheers

Canberra is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It has a very dry climate so even when it's in the high 30s it's not too bad.

We lived in
Canberra 25yrs til mid 2007. In our experience summertime temps hover in the high 20s, low 30s, however I'll never forget the hottest day we had in Jan 2003 bushfires, around 40C and gusting winds.
Having said
Canberra summers are hot, there can be a cold snap to bring it back to 16C for a few days. Never go to
Canberra in Summer without some cold weather gear.

show grounds 18 months ago, it cost us $20 a night for the 5 of us, great amenities and good size sites.

I was in the
Canberra Motor Village (O'Connor) 6 weeks ago. Clean place, good size sites and drive throughs as
well. No complaints here!
September archive on www.cooneystour.blogspot.com has a pic of the van on site if you're interested.
I did the same thing with my kids and found it was
well placed to get to most of the attractions without having to go through the CBD everytime.
If you're going to the War
Memorial it opens at 10.00AM I'm pretty sure. Do a free guided tour for about 90mins if your kids will sit still for that long. Found it very interesting and the knowledge the guide has was great.

Hi Happytravellers
We go to
Canberra often (daughter lives there) always stay at
Canberra Motor and caravan
park Kuzan st O'conner.
Older facilities, drive through sites, bit noisey if the school excursion kids are in, make sure you take leveling wood as none of the sites are level.
Good food at the Rugby Club down the road about 2 klms.
Regards
Ted

Ho Ho The second site down as you come down on to them is the one we had and about the ONLY level one and thank god as we didnt have any Chocks then
Most of the other vans had chocks as you say some up to about 4 ins high.
Most of the kids were up the other end in the units when we were there.
Nice and close to town though.
Cheers
