Hey guys,

Having travelled 20,000kms in our CT I finally decided to look at how I would jack it up to change a wheel!! We have a Suzuki Grand Vitara and after 65000 kms haven't had to jack it up either. The Suzi has a scissor jack with a flat top with a notch which fits inot the jacking point. The CT has a 4cm square axle. My problem is that if I use the Suzi scissor jack under the CT axle will it be stable? I went looking for a jack with a u shape or half square top that would fit around the CT axle but according to the guys at Autobarn they don't make them any more.

What do you use to jack up your CT? Any suggestions?

Hi Thommo,

I've got a 10 t high lift bottle jack (that I picked up for 30 bucks from a clearing sale). A 3t would suffice

I have a bolted a reciever on either side on the axle(mine is 50mm sq) This takes the head of the bottle jack so that it can never slip off.

Thanks Wilko,

Are the receivers something you made or can you get them with the bottle jack?

Cheers,

Hi Thommo,

They are something a boilermaker mate knocked up on a sat arvo.

You'll need 2 x flat metal discs (we used 5mm thick cause he over engineers everything ) slightly bigger then the head of the jack

We welded a rim of flat bar around the discs then bolted it either side to the axle.

When you need to jack up the camper, put the jack head into the reciever and jack away. It would take a lot for it to slip off the jack but normal common sense should prevail (don't get under it etc).

Just make sure that whatever you use can be slid under the jacking point on both vehicle and trailer when the tyre is flat, quite often they don't!
Causes a big problem on the side of the road.

He seems to be highly safety conscious.

After all, he IS using a secondary support !

What type of CT have you got? Mine's got drop down stabilizer legs at the back of it. So if I get a flat, I use the winding jockeywheel to lower the front the drawbar practically to the ground, drop the stabilizer leg on the side that's flat, lock it with a pin, wind the jockeywheel back up, and hey presto, it raises the problem wheel off the ground.

Thanks Rob,

We have a Cub so sounds like a similar system. Will give it a try.

I use the hyd jack from a Disco to jack both the camper and Prado up. It's ideal and is far safer than the Tojo original equipment as it has the bent bar on top for locating and shouldn't slip off easily.

I have a Disco & the jack is perfect for the camper trailer as well.
