Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on these 2?
I have had a look through the archive I found lots on KK's and a bit on Aussie Swags.
I really like the Aussie Swag Kitchens.
Came across the Campomatic and was wondering what they are like and capable of?
Am thinking of doing the Cape, GRR, Kimberley's...
Not sure if campers are allowed on the Simpson. I am sure they are not allowed on the CSR.
The other brand I like are the AORC. They look really nice.
Looking at the second market as well.
Thanks for your time
Regards

Hi,

I had a Campomatic and loved it.

They have been around for decades and if my memory serves me right, they are a result of a split between the 2 partners who started Cub Campers about 40 yrs ago. Apparently when the partners split, one kept the Cub name and the other took the Campomatic name.

Having said that, the current models are not made by the original owners and I think that when Campomatic was sold they moved all manufacturing to Adelaide and then contracted some of the manufacturing out to China, but cannot comment on quality with current models.

A mate has just bought a 1996 model Aussie Swag and when we were camping a few weeks back I had a good look and to be honest, they are very similar to the Campomatic and also the KK.

I do like the way the kitchen slides out then turns 90 deg and then runs down the side of the camper on the Aussie Swag. It makes the area under the awning more usable.

There has been an Aussie Swag advertised in my local paper for $13500 in the last few weeks. Don't know what its like but seems cheap to me. They certainly seem to hold their price.

Cannot answer any of your questions re CSR/Simpson as I haven't done those yet.

I really don't think that you could go wrong if you stick to a reputable brand that has proven itself over the years.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Cheers,

Cruiser

Hi Cruiser,
Quite interested in the Aussie Swag CT that you have mentioned for $13500 in your local rag. Just wondering if you could tell me the location and if you can provide me with any contact numbers.

I have a 1997 Camp-o-matic and I am in love with it.
In the last 2 years I have travelled many of the iconic tracks of Australia without a single problem , oops make that one problem, which was the kitchen catches wore and needed a little weld on the end.

Mine has independent suspension, and after 3 months in the Kimberley including GRR and Kalumburu roads , it needed new top shock bushes on the konis.

The canvas is still in perfect condition.

Mine has a pretty basic kitchen but the 2000 model which was made at Yatala has a much better kitchen. I believe they were made in Yatala until 2002.

One great feature of the Camp-o-matic is that he awning remains attached to the roof , and the camper can be closed with it attached. We rarely use the awning in fine warm weather and just leave it across the roof .

I can heartily recommend a a Yatala built Camp-o-matic as the owner of the business was a perfectionist , to the extent of cutting and sewing all canvas on the premisis.

The biggest downside is that because of the changes in ownership , the new owners do not have a parts list for the older models, and have no knowledge of say suspension bushes required.

Thanks Philip.
I am at the early stages of looking. So far we have always carried our camping gear on/in our Cruiser. Just looking at other options and really like the hard floor types.

Why don't you give them a call and ask them??

Trak Shak Australia

22 South St, Rydalmere NSW 2116

Phone: 02 9638 0771

I know one of the owners personally. I suspect they are not in receivership.

Thanks,

We have an Aussie Swag Challenger (2001 model) and it is great and have never had any trouble with it. It has traveled extensively through the outback, gulf and Vic high country without a hitch!!

Would recommend them any day.

Now have a van but keep the trailer for really going bush.

Even though I have a KK, all these trailers are good quality.....whichever one suits you most..

Best way is to get to a big camping show and check them all out !!

Sounds like you don't know your product all that well ( yet ). so don't rush it.....take your time and look....and look.....!!!!

I think that is the answer. Unfortunately living in a rural area has its disadvantages.
After a few big trips in our Cruiser carrying all our gear we have chatted quite a lot with fellow campers.
The Hardtops are the way to go for us. It is now deciding of the 3-4 bigger brands what we can get for our money.
I think all are worthy of owning. The little features that we like will most likely be the clincher.

We have an Aussie Swag, and love it. We have also found the 'after sales service' to be excellent.
My favourite part of the Aussie Swag is its kitchen.
The set up and pack up are also very quick. I can pack it up by myself.
Go to a show if you can, and check out all the ones you are interested in. Just work out what features you like and go from there.
