It should say it in your manual/ service book.

Mine is 3200kg as it is an 07 auto 3L CRD. If yours is a manual they are usually allowed to go to 3500kg.

Carlj,

What engine?

According to Redbook there were 4 engine types in 2000 and manual and auto all have different capacities.

These are manual
2.8ltr diesel Towing Braked (kg) 2800
3.0ltr diesel Towing Braked (kg) 3200 (April 2000)
4.2ltr diesel Towing Braked (kg) 3500
4.5ltr petrol Towing Braked (kg) 3140

Does anyone know why the weights vary so much between like vehicle e.g. between a manual and auto version of the same thing?

Bonz by fitting the taipan exhaust what difference did it make. If your towing was there a marked difference .

The 3 ltr Have a lighter drive train that limits weight able to be towed.

Dont know why the 4.2 are different maybe engine power or lack of it

The Taipan exhaust made a huge difference to the driveability of the Patrol, more power and more usable, particularly off road.

"The 3 ltr Have a lighter drive train...."

'bout time this ol' furphy was put to bed...

The ZD30 Patrols use the same running gear as all other GU variants with the exception of the early 2.8's, which used the FS5R30B (manual) gearbox, instead of the FS5R50B which is used in all other manual GU's (including ZD30)...

The TX12A transfer case is common to all...

The Jatco RE4R03A 4-speed auto trans is common to RD28Ti, TB45E, and ZD30, though each (apparently) uses a different variant of the same box... (the main differences would be in the electronics/servos, I would think)..
I am given to understand that they quite a strong box..

The 5-speed RE5R05A used in the TB48E is very similar, according to Max Ellery ;-

Diffs are either H233 or H260 throughout the range...

No, I don't know the reason for the lighter towing capacity, but the fact is, the 3 ltr does _not_ "have a lighter drive train" ...

The 4.2 ute had a lower tow capacity and varied between coil and leaf springs.

Cheers

If its a 30 its probably 3200kg for a manual.

Towball weight decreases the more you put in the car.

Take care with how much weight that you put behind the rear wheels Ie: ball weight of the van + spare wheel carriers + fuel etc.....

We had one here a couple of weeks ago that had cracked the chassis behind the shock towers due to too much weight & bashing it across the Simpson.

There is a decal inside the left hand rear (barn) door with the relevant information. There was an update from Nissan to increase the weight of the 4.2 to 3,500 kg. If you don't have one talk to your friendly Nissan man.
