Hi - having been to Fraser Island a few times, I thought for a change we'd go to
Moreton Island over
Easter.
Can anyone provide a
camping zone recommendation? Our requirements are to be near a good swimming beach (keeps the kids happy) and as far *away* from the resort / tourist trail / hoards as possible. We are completely self sufficient and
well set up with our
camping gear and my Patrol. The more remote away from facilities the better ;)
Any recommendations much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Piers

Unless things have changed there is no fuel for sale on the island so make sure you have enough..

We've sometimes camped at the beachside "bays" between Cowan Cowan and
Bulwer. These bays are big enough for two vehicles, or a vehicle and a trailer.
This is on the western side and the swimming is good in summer. Last time we were there we were visited by a pod of dolphins, and they hung around in the shallow
water of about half an hour.
Not sure how busy it will be at
Easter - there are only a dozen or so bays, and the
camp sites near
Bulwer will be absolute zoos. Couldn't be a bad as Fraser at
Easter, though:-) I suggest you call National Parks, or at least check out the EPA website, on
this link.
There are
good camp-sites on the eastern side of the Island, however it's a bit exposed, and your kids may get eaten if they go for a swim!
