Hi all
Can anyone tell me what a 73 Litre Auto fridge is worth second hand?
It's aprox 8 years old, runs
well, inside is in good condition, marks on the exterior. Comes with the 240 transformer. One owner.
Thanks

Like everything else, it's worth what someone is willing to pay....
Are you looking to buy, or sell??

I agree they are a very good fridge, but at 8 years old it is probably getting towards the latter years of its life and from what I have read they are extremely expensive to repair.
I have also read that if you don't keep them operating very regularly they die and the cost of repairs makes it not worth repairing.
I personally would pay very little for it, a maximum of a quarter of the new price.

Funny how people are nervous of things that they don't fully understand.
Eutectic refrigeration has been & still is uded extensively in the marine industry. It also has proven to be one of most reliable & least power hungry types of refrigeration.
I will buy every one that you can find for "quarter of the new price"

Have a 39L one that's 25 years old & a 73L one that's over 15, both used regulary & never had a problem. As Shaker says one of the most reliable
portable fridges made. Even considering it's age & condition it still would bring
well over $1000. I'd certainly pay more 2nd hand for one than buy a new Waeco ;-)

I have a 39l Autofridge and would pay a reasonable amount for a 73l, provided that I could test it prior to handing over the $$. They are now $2600 odd retail and they are an excellent fridge, which will last indefinitely if looked after.
These fridges need to be used regularly, or the eutectic fluid wont circulate and the fridge will simply not cool things down. They cost (for the 39l) about $600-$700 to rebuild.
If the one you are either going to sell or buy hasn't been used regularly and it doesn't cool properly, it is not worth anything much. It is has been looked after, used regularly and cools
well it will last a good many more years and is worth decent money.
My fridge was bought in about 1996 or so and hasn't missed a beat. I leave it running 24/7 as a beer fridge at home when not traveling.
Cheers,
Mark

Lyndon,
If I mounted that 73 Litre Evacool fridge in the back of a very high troopy, is there any chance of falling and braking a bone while trying to get a cold beer?
I'm sure you understand this question better than others...
They are great fridges though and lot of cold VB Gold Cans applied to a bruise can apparently help with the swelling.

Ha Ha Chris!
Actually it's an Auto Fridge. Evacools are an esky with a cooling unit bolted on one end! So get your facts straight! We are however looking at a ladder of some sort to prevent this happening again :)

Lyndon
Sorry I'm late with this post - just arrived back from
Brisbane with new D-MAX ;-)
I bought this same frig (10 yrs old) from the local company that
services them (KOOLFIX). He ran it for a few days to check it. When I got it home it was TOO COLD !! (Froze everything on "1"). Took it back to him and he adjusted the thermostat, gave me some test gear and allowed me to take it all home to test it over the next week.
I purchased an Engel Wireless Monitor and set everything up for a week long test - taking photos, about 2 every day.

I bought it to put in my
Kimberley Kamper (just fits). One thing I was advised is to keep the sides of the frig
well ventilated - these are the heat cooling panels. (non tech speak). ;-) AND to run the frig every month. As a beer frig, I think it will get a good workout ;-)

just to add, Shaker is spot on for a good one. The year of manufacture was on my warranty card, so I suspect it is on the motor. Nothing on outside.
Mine has (like a 12V computer) exhaust fan next to the switch.
