Recently purchased an '03 Prado Grande which has built in navigation.
The software DVD that drives it is provided by 'Where Is'. The latest version available for purchase ($395 or cheaper on Ebay) is Version 15. The version that came with the vehicle is version 10 and is very very limited.
Obviously version 15 would be better than version 10 but my question to anybody who has covered this ground before is -
Is 'Where Is' the only software that is compatible with the Toyota system or is there something better and hopefully with more road/track data built in?
What I'm looking for is more road/track data outside of the township areas.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think you'll find that many of the GPS city navigation systems are powered by WhereIs (Sensis) - I know my Garmin Nuvi is, and I suspect that Tomtom and Navman etc. run the same maps.
From my experience, the WhereIs (sensis) maps in the GPS's are pretty good (hopeless last time I tried to use the maps online though) and they've probably come a long way since 2003 (I assume your maps would be about the same age as the car) and I'd be surprised if you'd get anything much better (at least for Oz!) unless you want to go Topographical maps...

I have an 03 Cruiser that has "10" in it also, apparently the updates are not worth the $400 they are asking hence i am still running 10. and i believe it is the only one compatable with the toyo systems.

You might check out a replacement dash unit that can do both street and and run oziexplorer on a large screen. It plugs into the Toyota wiring harness.
