Apparently Shane Warne is to be the new compere.
I don't know much about his career other than as a bowler, but what the hell would he know about vehicles except doing the bimbo waltz in the back seats?
The programme was pretty bad before, but maybe it will improve.
Cheers

Latest update:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/10/21/2719929.htm?section=justin
"The BBC has denied reports Jeremy Clarkson and cricketer Shane Warne will join forces to host a new series of Top Gear Australia.
News Limited and Fairfax reported that Channel Nine had snared the rights to the popular motoring show from SBS.
The News Limited report added that Clarkson and Warne - a fast car enthusiast - would front the local version of the show.
"Utter nonsense," said a spokeswoman for BBC Worldwide, which owns the rights to the franchise.
She did, however, confirm the BBC was in talks about the future of Top Gear Australia.
"Beyond that there is really nothing to add," she said.
The British edition of Top Gear - hosted by Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May - is estimated to have a worldwide audience of 285 million.
SBS has broadcast the hugely successful show since 2005 and has produced two seasons of a local version."

Wow. 285 million worldwide for the pommy show.
Australia version worldwide would be close to twelve viewers, and falling.

Is it just me or does the Aussie 'hot lap' track seem like they are driving at golf buggy speed?

The English show is awesome and I very much enjoy it.
The Ozzie show is ok but its biggest problem is being forced to emmulate the original version.
Its like comparing Coronation St with Neighbours.
We have the talent, know how and expertise, just let our own do it our way.
Cheers......Lionel.

The problem with the aussie show ,apart from the lame jokes and even lamer hosts,is that it tries to follow the english model too closely.
It also needs some real vehicle tech ,instead if glossing over things deemed to complex for viewers to understand.
But Jeremy Clarkson and his 2 sidekicks are a hard act to follow

I couldnt agree more
Ross, the Pom show is good & I enjoy it. The Oz copy
was woeful. We need a show with a different format & probably different hosts. The poms bashed the Commodore & Maloo, but they both did
well in
the hands of the Stig......oldbaz.

I agree too - there's a big difference (in my pom opinion) between Aussie cars and thinking and British - I think that could be made very entertaining!
For example - we love how mad the colours of the cars are over here, we love all the utes. We love the debates of Ford / Holden and we love how a beat up
old car will still have a 5 poster roo bar loving added to the front!
Why they think they need an older presenter, a short one and a nerdy geek I don't know! That's not entertaining in itself - it's about the people and chemistry (banter I mean!)
I find it embarrassing that they share the name at this point - please, please improve!

In the same way as every McDonalds store is much the same!
Top Gear is franchised to several different countries, every one has the same set design & show format.

Well, I don't watch much TV (apart from news & weather) at the best (or worst) of times, but this is one show which I will NOT be watching.. at all... ever...
Most certainly not while the afore-mentioned person is a compere...
Thanks for the heads-up:) .. lets me know what to avoid;-)
Regards...

It will be interesting to see if he can spin bowl a car.
I only watched two episodes of the aussie version and realised I had been stupid to watch episode 2. After watching episode 1 I should have known it wasn't worth watching.
With a change of comperes it couldn't get worse - could it.

I decided to watch the first Aussie Top Gear. I think to this day its stuck in reverse !! I cringed with embarrassment and thought to myself God help those people who are visitors to our fine shores, being lambasted with such banal rubbish. What an embarrassment !!! What sort of impression would they go away with after watching a few moments of Reverse Gear

We liked the Aussie show even though it wasn't as good as the English one as it had a few 4wd bits in it including some useful bits in the snow.
While the compere's of the Aussie show are poor sometimes I tend to agree that Warne in it would seem a backwards step.
