Hi All
If you're in the market for a
camping torch this summer, Coles have the 4xD Maglite with a 3W LED and Duracell batteries for only $29.
I'm not sure what states this applies to, but is valid in WA
Most
camping shops sell this package for around $80 - $110, so this is dirt cheap.
Goodluck

They sure are.... I bought one a few weeks ago for $39 and another today for $29.
Here's the current catalogue - it's listed on page 17:

I had that problem too. So I put in some postcodes like 5000 and 2000 etc and found that there were different brochures in different states. Both WA and NSW had it in the catalogue. Didn't check any more states after that. Price was $29 reduced from $39 and definitely was Maglite.
Warning that the brochures are big. I would not download them if on dial up.

I think Torch buyer should look closely for Cree LED based torches, the CREE Leds seem to be the brightest most power efficient LEDS going around, there are various makers using them.

Hi
While I agree with you, the Maglite is almost as good
I bought a Fenix LD20 on ebay for $70 (about $100+ here in the shops) and while it is slightly brighter than the Maglite, the batteries will only last an hour on full and a few hours on low - despite what they claim (I do use rechargeables though). The LD20 uses 2xAA batteries, so it will fit in your pocket and is a great torch, but as mentioned can be a pain in the behind changing batteries every 2nd day.
Cheers

Hi Ozwasp, I think the technology of the LED dictates the end result in terms of battery consumption etc etc, Mag may use a larger case with bigger batteries to gain longer run times. At the end of the day you can buy either, I like the Fenix stuff especially the LD20 and TD20 , don't quote me on the exact models, I have the really small one and the 200 series which outputs 600 lumens. I don't think Mag should have ownership of the torch market anymore as there are so many good LED products available today at reasonable prices. The Zebra Leadlight I have that uses a CREE flood led is absolutely awesome as a tool in working situations. There is some great stuff available today and I have bought rechargeable batteries to overcome the never ending power needs.

I don't disagree with you.... As mentioned I own the LD20
The thing is, I don't want to be taking 20 batteries with me when I'm
camping or have to charge/change them...... So at $29 I'd recommend the Maglite prior to getting a pocket torch, as it's more practical.

FWIW, there are a few (US) ebay sellers selling CREE (so they claim) LED drop-in conversions for C & D maglites at what appear to be fairly competitive prices (around AUD$25 delivered...
Just thought I'd mention it;-)

Thanks for that, ozwasp.
I tend to chuck the Coles and Woolies letter box fillers in the bin, but that one was worth looking at.
I suspect I may have got the last one at the Springwood (Arndale) store. The lady at the checkout asked what was special about them as a previous customer had bought 6. Maybe the Hyperdome might be worth checking if you're in Logan.
Cheers,
Chris

Whilst i own much better lighting than these maglites nowadays, i couldn't resist the price. :)
I'm not sure how they can sell them for $29, let alone $39 RRP (??) as everyone seems to sell them sans batteries for $70+. Sounds like a huge bulk purchase at cost sales.
For the price they are a worthy contender, albeit large, however with a ~42hr battery life they seem to be worth it.
Review of the LED Maglite available here:

Only 6 of them sitting at our local Coles store at the moment......
well hidden i'd say. ;)

"Ed" - But these grandies are so very special :-)
I hope that other members can also manage to obtain at least one before they are gone.
I can't work out how Coes has managed to supply these quality torches at such a low price.
Thanks for your posting "ozwasp"
