Normally to fix the most common pump leak on a Toyota ve pump you need to replace the top cover oring (22774 on the picture above) & the throttle shaft oring (22740A)
What year is yours ?

A little tip John, when i dismantle something like that I use a digital camera & take photos as I dismantle the part & load them into the computer. Its easier to refer back to if you arent sure how something is assembled & your photos will be beter quality than wots in the manual cheers Daryl.

I was taught that diesel fuel pump tolerances are so miniscule without the right toolshop it is not serviceable. I'm yet to see any mechanic who will work on one. They all send it away to professional shops for a reason.
Here's this

you will also need a $100000 test bench to test it

I gave my old 2wd hilux 1985 to a mechanic to fix and he passed it to a learner who bent something because he put it back together wrong. It was just an O ring but it seems a bit of care is needed at least in my case. I ended up buying a complete wreck and changed the motor and everything for less than the cost of a reconditioned pump.
I reckon now the whole effort was not worth saving the vehicle.
