How robust are these units? No specific makes in mind at the moment.

Wondering if any one is using one and how long they last on rough roads and corrugations. That screen mount looks a bit flimsy. :o)
Pluses and minuses?
Currently using a 3.5" PDA with oziexplorer CE and maps, so looking at Win CE 5 systems.
When I pull out the old 27mhz CB, I will have a spare DIN slot.

Good point Doug, thanks.
Already find the radio with removable face plate is a hassle with dust, and dropping off on rough roads. Why I wonder if I am looking for trouble with these :o)

The gears are plastic in these units, although I think possibly the Lilliput brand ones are metal. Not 100% sure though.
I can't see them lasting very long over corrugations.
If you have the space why not use a double din unit?

Did look a the double DIN unit, but they seem to have a screen that flicks up so you can access the controls etc. Maybe that is on a GPS/media unit?
Idea though.

I have had a single din one in my Rodeo for the last 6 months. All the functions are still working fine, however it has started having trouble with retracting the screen.
I was planning to have a good look at it tomorrow and will be happy if I can force it to stay open permanently.
In our Falcon I have had a double din unit for 2 years without any problems. No moving parts. Nothing to go wrong.
I would have liked to have put a double din unit in the Rodeo but there is no room.

Gday John,
I've run a Jaycar in-dash screen for a few years now. It gets inputs from both camera and computer. It is not motorised, but the release button broke and I doctored it so I just pull it out. Its been OK on corrugations. But I get the screen to stay up by using a velcro strip from the top of the screen to the dashmat, so it doesn't tip down.
