Hey there,

I am interested in collecting the McCulloch 73A (Aust Built) or SP125 chainsaws as a collector. Any information on any of these old McCulloch saws is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Chris.

Chris, these are a old favourite for offroaders due to their reliability and size. Good luck mate, as I recall there was someone on here a while back talking about one he was retiring, I hope he reads this post.

Hi there Chris.
Not often the old 73a/47a saws are mentioned these days.

I have a 47a, 36" bar, which I bought new in 1959.

I was a young bloke in Gippsland falling mill logs and splitting fence posts for a living.

Was a very good (in my opinion) saw which did give some people problems because they didn't know how to look after them. Did have a tendency to let oil up the contact breaker pushrod, but better sealing fixed that. The 25:1 oil mix could cause some plug "whiskering too". I did once have a problem with the priming pump and made a better piston.

I still have the handbook, spanner, spare chains and sprockets, a clutch take up ring (never had to use).

The old girl still looks pretty good and these days sits up on a shelf with another of my old saws from the '60's, a Homelite 2200 automatic.

Sorry, but neither for sale!

Thanks for all of the replies. I would be interested in both the old Mac 47A and the Homelite 2200 furph - If you ever one day decided to part with them. I can be contacted via email - belandchris@optusnet.com.au

I enjoy the old saws - definitely a piece of Australian history.

Regards,

Chris.
