Hi all, we have just upgraded from an OZtent to the luxury of a Caravan. I am hoping that ignorance is the reason we are unable to get the hot
water to operate on gas.
Yes we have gas and yes it works when connected to 240v
It is a Truman 14litre
The red light does not come on!!
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

"Any suggestions"........You could possibly downgrade to the simplicity of an Oztent & boil the billy on the fire ;-)
Sorry Craig............

The igniter should click until the gas lights then there will be no light showing on the control unit. The red light only comes on if the unit fails to ignite.
In the truma there is a twelve volt fuse under the plastic cover on the side of the unit, it is a 1.5 amp slow blow fuse so make sure you replace it with the correct one if it's blown.
This fuse is in the twelve volt supply and controls the igniter for the gas. Worth looking at.

I have a copy of the manual but no scanner as were are travelling at the moment, I could photograph the page and email it off to you if you can't find the fuse.

OH, by the way there is probably a plastic cover over the external vent, also make sure you remove this.

Yeah, but if the gas isn't turned on the red light on the control unit will come on when it doesn't ignite, so it seems to me that there is something astray with the ignition circuit.

Hi
Have had same problem. When fitting new bottle or after it has stood for a while.
What we have been told is if you run the gas stove for 5 minutes or so it will fix the problem. We have found this to work ok. Just a matter of getting the gas in the line. Hope this helps.

Same applies as in follow up no 5 above, the red light will come on when it doesn't ignite.

With those sorts of systems there is commonly a thermocouple that senses heat from a flame in
the pilot. I know with one of the instant heater systems around the farm, I heat the thermocouple with a small gas torch just to ensure it allows gas to travel through the system to ignite. If I don't do that there is endless frustration waiting for it. As said above, it is after it hasn't been used for a while or a change of bottle.

Hi
Mentioned your problem to a Dometic bloke I had here on another matter. He suggested you need a new power module or possibly a loose wire.
