Hi Op, not sure exactly what your asking or about shorting wires.

Just assuming your timing from scratch:

Remove spark plugs.
Rotate engine manualy until the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley corresponds to the mark on the block. [ maybe 5-8 degrees before]
Poke a length of wire down No 1 plug hole to ensure your at TDC.
Lift the dizzy cap and ensure the rotor is pointing to No1 lead.
Pop the plugs back.

This will be timed within cooey and once running you can then re-time by small adjustments to the dizzy, or better still, use a timing light.

This system has never failed me no matter what engine I have worked on.

Cheers....Lionel.

Hi oldpop, only have info on Mitsubishi 2.6L 4Cyl Magna. Warmup engine, switch off, Bridge dignostic conector term 10 (grey/red wire) to term 12 (black wire) gnd. Start engine & check Ign timing 13Deg BTDC @ idle. Switch off & remove bridg wire. Posibly simillar.
