Is anyone else using those magnetic bed underlays advertised on TV ? we bought one a few weeks ago to see if it helped with Margo's hip pain.
No amazing dramatic changes as yet though it is very comfortable.
I am wondering if they do anything or is it just placebo effect "I have spent a few hundred bucks so I WILL feel better! :-) "
Do you have one have you noticed any difference ?

We have had one for a few months now, needed a new underlay anyway. As yet I am still waiting for it to work.
Cheers Kev

Kev,
It'll take more than magnets to rid Sam of those head aches each time you lay next to her. lol
On a serious note, a mate has them and he mentioned how on the first couple of nights he awoke feeling dehydrated & how hot/warm it felt all night, and he doesn't drink alcohol, a dicky ticker.
Must ask him how it's going. :)

Hairs,
We got the woolen one as
well as the woolen pillow slips. The woolen pillow slips starts my Asthma for some reason so I am using my normal comfy pillow I had before SWMBO bought the underlay LOL She is NOT impressed with me about it hehehe

Not exactly answering your question but I do have a positive experience with those small "super magnets" (about 6mm in diameter).
I jammed my finger in the car door, and while I was hopping around venting my feelings my wife produced a magnet, band-aided it to the fingernail and within a couple of minutes the throbbing stopped and when I took the magnet off 2 days later the nail had not turned blue and I didn't lose it.
I was very impressed for usually I'm as sceptical as hell with stories like that.
The iron in the blood (haemoglobin) is not magnetic and there's no logical reason for a magnet to have any effect, but it did. Perhaps the magnets can affect other body pains.
Cheers.

off topic as
well : A mate was struck by lightning and had really bad pain for months afterwards, he said the massive electricity dose really upset the iron levels in his blood.
There could be something in this I guess ?

Have had one, Queen Size, for about 10 years. The best thing about them, is the Pofits for those who sell them. Magnets only work on Fridges and compasses.
Cheers Steve. B...

Dug,sorry to be the bearer of bad news as i heard on the radio earlier this week, that, British tests had concluded that the magnetic & copper bangles, underlays & so on do not in fact work but if the consumer thinks that it is working, it is mind over matter & not the actual item.
My wife bought me the magnetic underlay thing 5 or so yrs ago, found it too uncomforable.
Cheers,
Bob.

I have bad elbows and knees and my wife bought one and put it on the bed. and didnt tell me so I wouldnthave any opinion for a while.
The only change i found was the bloody magnets stuck into me.
I would rate them along with HICLONES Magnetic Fuel Polarizers and the like.
Sorry Doug but "it wasnt good for me"

Have suffered with arthritic pain for many years. Have had many operations on both knees with eventual joint replacement, have had both hip joints replaced. Recently diagnosed with arthritis in the lower back. Have used the magnetic underlay for about 5 years. Is there any difference. Hard to say, might have been a lot worse without it. Something like the underlay is a very subjective when it comes to assessing usefulness.

They do not work - The older you get the more pain you suffer and those little magnets do not help :-)

In trials of medications, there's about a 30% rate of positive reports with placebos.
The cheapest medical interventions ever.

Hi D200Dug
I have been using innersoles with small magnets in each shoe for yrs & have found them very beneficial. ( on my feet 12hrs shifts ) I also have 10cent piece size magnets which I place directly onto area with tape ( eg shoulder or hip) also helps when I have an area that is more painful than usual. The supposed therapeutic effect from the magnets wears off after several hrs once removed from skin contact.
Am wondering if all above writers find there's no benefit from their magnetic underlay as the magnets are too far from the skin ( ie wool layer between magnet & skin with too much padding) I find the magnets need to be in closer contact to the skin to be helpful. I also saw the recent UK research result & am wondering how far the magnets were from skin contact? It would be interesting to read the full research paper. Does Margo sleep on her side or her back? Sleeping on her pain affected side may help. Good luck
cheers Sue

Margo may become slightly concerned if I start supergluing magnets to her :-) LOL
thanks for the info if margo sleeps on her side causing pain it increases the discomfort.
We will see what happens next
I will also do some more reading on magnetic therapy
cheers doug

As steveinoz said, they certainly do work.
In separating $450 from the gullible they work brilliantly.
Sadly, this is the only thing they do.

Hi,
If the magnets in an MRI machine have zilch effect on a human body, any piddling little 'super' magnet ain't got Buckley's.
A total WOMBAT.
cheers
