Planning to have a snorkel fitted to my 2008 t/d Hilux, mainly to get the air intake further away from the dust. Any comments re rain intake, wind noise, product quality etc., on the different makes available would be appreciated.

Rodge

Just had a Safari Snorkel fitted to my new D-MAX turbo diesel and only driven <2k.

Yes they keep the air intake up away from the dust and water (that's what they're designed for ;-) ).

Be prepared for the "snorting" noises you get from the snorkel when you put your foot down. Surprised me when I first heard it. I would go for a ride in a Hilux with one fitted and then make up my mind.

Mine doesn't have a snorkel however when I fitted roof racks and these were only the Rhino Aero style that don't hold too much weight and look very aerodynamic, I immediately noticed a little more wind noise. I suspect the snorkel would create some wind noise as well. I think to justify a snorkel you need to be doing some water crossings, the intakes on the current Hilux are well designed, not sure on the real advantages when it comes to dust?
