Morning All
I.m new to all this but was wondering, can I use my Magellan Explorist 500
to run a map program on a laptop while driving.
When I bought it, it came with Map send light not sure if this is what I need
or do I need Explore oz.Any information would be gratefully excepted as I say it's all new to me
Thanks Norm

Yes Mapsend will do it,Just set the GPS Log with the Explorist and put in NMEA mode and press start in the software.Vantagepoint does it as well...If you hav Garmin Software and you buy GPSgate you can use the GPS with Garmin Software...

In NMEA there are 4 options Off, V1.5 APA, V1.5XTE, V2.1GSA
Any idea which one I should choose

Hi Norm,

Can't help with your question, but I have to say, you have a great screen name.

For a moment there, I thought I must have moved across the country.

Oziexplorer (from Oziexplorer.com) is the de-facto standard for moving maps systems on PC's and laptops.

I couldn't find your specific GPS in their list but it says it supports most Magellan and other GPSs, if they output NMEA data format.

Check out their website.
