HI,

What's the opinions of people regarding the canvas door to a camper trailer? There seems to be two options in the soft floor versions.

1. Zipped to the ground, velcro at the bottom to fasten.
2. Zipped around like a tent door about a foot off the ground, pulls to one side.

I'm interested in the pros and cons of both, and whether one provides better water proofing in heavy rain.

Thanks.

Ours are fixed at the top and have two zippers that we zip back to the top on one side to close, stops animals like foxes prying the zip open and also stops the kids from reaching them during the night without you knowing.
con- more to unzip when you need to do a midnight run.

I prefer the one zip shaped like the curved side of a D and with the bottom raised a few inches above the ground with a sewn in floor. Seems less likely to leak and only one zip to handle. Probably the most vermin proof arrangement. Can't just be swept out however but we always carry a dustpan anyway. I like the zip to have two sliders so the point where the door opens from can be varied. And I certainly want a double door with both canvas and insect netting.

I'd have to agree completely with this opinion 100%. And my hubby reckons I never agree with anything 100%!

I like the D shape as others have posted. One thing to consider is having a cover over the zipper otherwise you can get water penetration through the cloth of the zipper. Our camper has a plastic cover sewn over the outside of all the zippers.

Hi Pug,

Ours is the D shape like most, and I like the idea of having 2 zip sliders which come together. Probably not a great deterrent, but when we leave the camper we put a little padlock through the holes on the sliders to provide a little bit of security.

Our old camper had the d shape with two zippers the door was towards the corner we had trouble with water running off the roof and straight down the zipper then inside. The ones with the door closer the the bed or in the middle of the wall would have been better.

Yes the best we've had is the D style. The floor was a heavy pvc type zipped on, but we seldom removed it for cleaning anyway, still found it a good option.
Our camper was the All Terrain and I really liked how they had a couple of strips of velcro at the top and bottom edge of the door and corresponding on the wall of the camper (door was in the middle and a bit towards the bed side from memory) but when you flipped it open it would stick to the wall and no need for roliing it up etc to keep it out of the way.
