Hi I,m looking to install either a Black Widow or an ORS drawer system into my 100 series. Both seem to be very good products and both are priced similar. Can anyone comment on pros and cons between the two.

Also has anyone got one of these

http://www.platinumgear.com.au/

If so can you comment on them?

Thanks

Hi Rare
I have and can recommend the Black Widow draw system. In a lot of cases, if you sell your vehicle, you are able to install your old unit in your new vehicle, while only having to replace the side wing sections. They have many add on features and work a treat. My system has seen the toughest of conditions that Australia can through at you, and have stood up with no problems at all. There are a lot of other systems on the market, all being good, but will vary greatly.

My unit has the sliding fridge slide, half rated cargo barrier in the back, as well as a Black Widow top shelf barrier, while when I head bush, I take out the back seats and install the forward half floor. On the outside I have the Black Widow 2.5m Side awning. No I do not work or have and interest in the Company, just one very happy and satisfied customer with their products.

Cheers

You are setup similar to what I,m look for Cargo barrier with shelf. I,m thinking about installing the stainless steel water tank as well between the drawers and back seats?

Have you seen this slide before http://www.platinumgear.com.au/

Seems to be a good idea but I,ve little about them?

Hi Fred
When we head bush, you would be surprised just how much gear we take. We have just purchased a kitchen sink - well the fold up ones from the EO shop, so next time we will have even more gear in the car, including the kitchen sink. LOL

As for the awning, it is great. We usually use it at night, but the day that we were at Neale Breakaway on the Connie Sue, it was quite warm without any shade, so we put out the awning for some shade and our lunch break. We have had all our gear for some time and are very happy with the way that it all works.

Cheers

Hi Rare
The water tank would be great, but not sure on the size. Whenever we head bush, we always carry a minimum of 100 litres of water. It sounds a lot, but when you are not able to top up along the way, you would not believe just how quick the water goes in a 3 week trip. We do not waist it, purely for drinking, cooking and washing dishes etc. We usually have 1 x 20 litre water container, 10 x 2 litre old coke bottles full of water 6 x 10 litre casks of spring water. In this way, when the coke bottles and spring water are used, it gives us extra free space inside the car. The coke bottles fit very neatly in both foot wells under the Forward Floor.

As for the drop down fridge slides, they are only new out and we have our set up long before they were out. The only trouble now with the Top Shelf Barrier, you can not just open up the fridge the way I used to before, as the is less than 10mm gap between the fridge cover and the bottom of the barrier frame ( this is for my 40 litre Engel.) As I am a lot taller than Fiona, I slide the fridge out and can see what is in there.

Cheers

Stephen

You should have a look at the draw systems from Best Off Road too (on this site).
Jim is very competitive if that's of significance for you.
I haven't got the platinum unit for the fridge - great idea but I can't justify the $$'s when I can stand in the towbar instead.

Good luck

Steve

got a black widow in my 100 series. Got the full setup, draws/fridge slid/centre divider/ roof shelf and cargo barrier.. If you want the drop down slide(platinum) don't install the roof shelf, as my 60L Engel won't fit.
Quality finish and other than having to tighten a couple of bolts after some bumpy stuff and service the draw bearings and lube the runners, it pretty much looks after itself. I am more than happy with my system.

HiRare
I have the Black Widow drawers , front floor section and half cargo barrier in my 100 series. Fitted it myself which wasn't too hard. They are well made and fit very well. Also have a fridge slide which lets the engel 39l slide out the passenger side door.Wife needs a step to see in the fridge as it is a tad high for her. all in all am quite happy with the drawer system.

Cheers

Well seeing as Steve has mentioned us I'll chime in.

We professionally build Drawer Units that will do everything that Black Widow or ORS or Outback do for about half the price. Every bit a strong and about half the weight.

The other advantage of ours is that they take only 10 to 15 minutes to install or remove.

Have a look at our website

Best Off Road Website

You'll find shots of the 100 series there.

Cheers,

Jim Best.

I should have mentioned, if you are in the market for the real upmarket stuff I'd suggest "Fourby Fitouts", Hallam, Vic.

They build great "modular" drawer systems. Only marginally dearer than the others mentioned but superb, if you're not on a budget.

Jim.

I would recomment that you speak to each manufacturer and find out what the internal dimensions of their drawers are. There is a big difference in the size - some are up to 100mm longer than others and the height varies quite a bit too. If, like us, you were after maximum space inside the drawers then this is important. We found that the Black Widow had the largest capacity drawers and they were a quality product so we were prepared to pay the price premium for this, rather than get something cheaper and have limited room.

We have a Prado so I can't say whether or not Black Widow would have the most room for a 100 series.

We bought our Outback system 2nd hand and have since had it in 3 different vehicles. It has been pounded on thousands of km of corrugations and flexed on some hard off roading and still works like the day it was new. A few of the screw heads aren't the best anymore due to bad operation of a screwdriver installing and removing the top.Image Could Not Be Found

Have you looked at http://www.4wdinteriors.com/ We have been using these for the last three vehicles and find them excellent. Not a rattle, extremely well made and last forever by the looks of things. Price wise I reckon they will be line ball with the rest and it will depend on your reseller as to how interested they are in discounting.

As a tour operator and trainer we need stuff to last and these guys deliver and no I don't get anything from them

Hey Greg, do you mind giving us an idea of how much they are? There seems to be no info on the website - even on the order form where they ask for your credit card details but don't mention the price... is it a case of "if you have to ask then you can't afford it?!"

Hope they have changed management practices.....

Thanks Greg - yes, that is a lot, but then again, a standard fridge slide is usually already at least $350-400.

rare, I see that Tanami haven't been mentioned here. They are a great set in aluminium but aren't cheap. They are solid when in place. The Tanami range The problem there was that they weren't the most professional but the job was great
