Buying a Camper Trailer

For many campers the decision over the 'living quarters' poses the greatest quandary in the pre-trip planning. Other than a wide range of trailers,

I finally signed the papers today and order a Tvan. Decided for the Muranji, top of the range with annexe walls, ensuite and bed extension for my long legs.

Now i have to wait till January to get it. In the mean time i will reconsider my current equipment a work out what will still suit, what is needed to buy and what to go. Then work out where to go to test it.

First to go is the exisiting camping trailer, will take photos this weekend and list in the trader. As my membership is due i get a free listing.

Followed by the boat and outboard as it is not used anymore so i might as well raise some cash.

Gday Alan, good choice. Did you also get the optional deluxe innerspring pillow top mattress? If you didn't I would seriously consider it. Would have to be about the best mattress we have ever slept on!

No just the standard mattress, I can sleep on anything, and the wife tried it and is happy with the standard.

I was concious of the cost, the standard can be replaced later if needed anyway.

Good choice, we too have a Tvan. A couple things we got changed. We got the bed extension, only a little shorter than what they normally do it. Reason being, the mattress is a loose fit therefore were able to still get the benefits of the extension but are also able to fit a 40ltr Engel. Instead of the 5 jerry can capacity, we went for four. This enabled us to have2x 100amp/hr Gel cells on the front, no extra cost. We also got matching tyres and wheels just in case we get caught out, this gives us 3 more spares for the car. Also went the extended drawbar, some cars can’t open their back doors with the standard one.
The Tvan really is a great unit, make sure you soak and allow to dry 3 times(including annex) before using it and it won’t leak! Ours didn’t leak a drop even in tropical downpours. Learn to set up the annex at home, it is a bit of a pain. The At35 is a hassle to hook up but a dream one on. The Tvan has a VERY heavy ball weight, so better to spend the time lining up the car than putting your back out!

I think you will find that Track now fit the Hicthmaster DO35 coupling as standard.

We looked ta the sort of travelling we do, and it is normally a sprint over a few days to get to where we are going, then we move on every day or so in that area, then a sprint to get home. Problem of living in Perth. As we move on every day or so the the batteries are being charged and the car has two batteries as well. And for emergencies i carry a small generator ( that I have never used).

An extra jerry can holder is more usefull to me than a Battery.

I checked the drawbar lenght as my current triailers brake lever caused problems on my old patrol. But on the GU IV the towbar is mounted a little further back and i have a extended tongue so it is no longer a problem.

I am now looking forward to using it.

Lucky you, I'm a west aussie stuck in NSW for a few more months and I was thinking of getting one over here and towing it back. Some of the dealers have them in stock but only the Canning. I'm about to do some price research, the dealer I spoke to last week was supposed to e-mail a Price list but has not arrived yet. I wonder if they are cheaper here? Must be a pain having to wait.

Hi Driverdon. If you are serious about it, try and get to one of the C/C shows.
I did a deal with mine at the C/C Rosehill. They are told to bring back " ORDERS " But you have to Haggle. I really mean HAGGLE. Have a good look around though. Steve. B...
