Just bought a second hand Ausiie Swag camper trailer with electric brakes. It used to have a Tekonsha controller but this wasn't available with the trailer.
What is the difference between a Prodigy caravan and Trailer controller? Which will I need for a camper trailer?
I have 2 vehicles and understand that one controller can be moved between vehicles. Do I just need to buy one unit plus a second mounting kit?
Do I just need a controller or is there something else I may need on the trailer?
Thanks everyone

Hi Mike. As far as I know, there is no difference between a caravan and a CT in terms of your choice of controller: the whole idea is the adjust the controller to suit the degree of braking required, and ant Tekonsha should have that range of adjustment. That said, some prefer the Prodigy or the P3 to the earlier model Voyager (which is still being sold), on the basis that some Voyagers had a problem involving flattening the vehicle battery though inadvertently closing the brake light circuit to earth (often while the vehicle was stationary and unattended.
My own thought is that it should be possible to work around this, but I played safe and swapped my Voyager over to a Prodigy.
So, I know have a spare Voyager if you'd like it. Free, to a fellow
Simpson Desert Bike Challenge stalwart!!
Your CT should have been wired so that a 'normal' connector (7 pin round or one of the flat variety) on the towbar, wired as per the standard layout, will energise the brakes.
Obviously, the pin on the CT chosen to do this must be the one used on the other connector!! You DONT use the brake light wire; it is usual to use the AUX (blue) wire.

Not trying to nit pick BUT the brakewire is always BLUE and is PIN 5 on a 7 pin connector
The AUX is black and is PIN 2 This pin can also be used as reversing lights
On a 12 pin AUX is usually PIN 10

Thanks, Graham, for correcting me. On my van, the black wire has been 'reallocated' from reversing lights as per your diagramme, to become the basic 12v supply to the van. And, as you say, the blue is the brake operating connection, not to be confused with the (red) brake light connection.

You use the same controller for caravans or trailers. You just adjust the power settings to compensate for different weights etc when first setting off. (Very simple: just a thumb wheel to turn to get the appropriate braking level)
With the Prodigy, you just need a second "pocket" and wiring loom for the second vehicle, then you can just unplug and swap between vehicles.
You don't need anything else on the trailer.
Good luck with the CT.

I agree 100% with Terry. Two cradles and a Prodigy would be the perfect setup. As far as I know, there's no 'cradle' option for the Voyager. The offer still stands, if you're interested.

Agree with Terry,
And the prodigy has the 1 and 2 boost settings.
You may find you can swap a prodigy from one to the other, set it up for the lighter trailer, and just use boost 1 or 2 for the heavier trailer, so you are not changing settings each time.
Quite happy with my prodigy.
Set it up with a quick connect and extra wiring harness.
I got
mine from Derek (ABR), but you should be able to get them anywhere.

I use a Prodigy in my 200 series for both an Aussie swag and a caravan. It all works fine and much better than the voyager i had on my old 80 series.
