Hey guys,

I have been having trouble with starting the paj, first off it just wouldnt start - just click noise when i turned the key.
I presumed it was battery but after checking lights and stuff it seemed ok. I removed, cleaned and re-applied the terminals and it started. When i stopped again then tried to restart same happened. I removed terminals again and greased them up and topped up water levels on Battery (noticed they were low) then after fiddling with terminals and about 5 goes it started again. I have put new terminals on but it still only starts after much fiddling with terminals.
I am thinking starter motor but hoped someone with more know-how might know what it is?
Thanks.

Check the other ends of the battery leads, may be loose at starter or earth. Check that the wires on the solenoid are tight also.

Is it a diesel..?? If it is it could be your oil pressure timer that is faulty. The timer holds the oil pressure switch out until the engine has run (abt 20secs) enabling it to get oil pressure up. If faulty, it can prevent engine start.

sounds like starter motor solenoid. Used to clout the thing on my old falcon occasionally and it would go when it didn't want to.

I had a Rodeo that had the same problem, to fix it I replaced the contacts in the solenoid. After looking at the old contacts you see a dirt buildup and a lot of uneven wear on them.It cost me about $10 for the new contacts so if you use a sparky get him to look at the contacts first. Barnray

G'day howard_moon, my son had this problem with his 1988 model Landcruiser not that long ago and a mobile auto electrician replaced the solenoid switch for a cash price of $70.00. Going ok now. Happy Days. Pauper.
