Some time back I visited Temora for the annual outing of the tractors and other engines at the Rural Museum. I can recommend this to anyone as a great weekend and Temora is a great little town - and this incident certainly won't stop me from going back. Just thought that others might like to know about the little fella I inadvertently folded up in the camper and who tried to chew his way out, as you would expect:-)

I'm told by one of the local entomologist that this is a relatively common run of the mill wood boring beetle and while they don't normally attack canvas or PVC they certainly have a strong survival instinct. I didn't get a chance to put the camper up as soon as I got home - work got in the way - but did put it up the next weekend to find a dead borer and some damage to the canvas and floor.

Moral of the story is - do a thorough check BEFORE packing as you to might trap one of these guys and upset him a mite! The link below should take you to some pics.

We have just returned from a 3 month trip to FNQ. Picked up a field mouse, he had a great time living in the pantry and canvas storage. Allright till somehow the mouse got into the camper and chewed a hole in a window fly screen when it was closed up for the day.

Tony,

There is obviously not enough room in the pantry area for him then LOL

Cheers Kev

We had a similar problem while up that way recently Tony, except it was one of those ugly bloated Cane Toads. He never got in the pantry, but made a mess when SWMBI stepped on him in the shower!

Mind you It was the first time we had actually came in first hand contact with one of these ugly, repressive & nasty symbols of esteem of our Northern neighbours. So much for a welcome to the supposed "Sunny State"!!

Mind you, the scream that SWMBI let out when she unexpectantly squashed the blighter with her foot was just reward for my 30 odd years of marriage to her & provided excellent entertainment for a while seeing as we were not able to get telly reception at that particular time. LOL & cheers

Hi,

We are coming up to our 12mth anniversary of "living on the road" and over that time we have acquired a lot!!! So I went about packing 2 boxes to send back to the in-laws in QLD (they have our 20ft container full of household items ect) as we have run out of room........ I decided to re-pack one of the boxes as the kids had just thrown a heap of things on top, when I went back through the box I found a live green tree frog!!! Thank goodness I found it.

We had one of those same borers a couple of weeks ago camped at Bourke. Little bugger was trying to get into the camper from the outside. In the morning i pointed out sunlight coming through a hole to DH and then went outside and noticed him sitting there making the hole.

We are careful before packing up now and do a thorough check beforehand.

I've never picked up any passengers in the camper. But after one long weekend away, when everything was packed up and just about ready to leave, I jumped in the car to back it onto the camper and realised the car keys were in one of the wall pockets. had to pull it all apart, open it up, get the keys and pack it all dfown again. Only did it once though. :)
