Hi
Does everyone have any suggestions for comfortable motel/serviced apartment type accommodation for 2 couples in
Newman and
Port Hedland in December ? I am traveling with the olds so something reasonably comfortable would be nice.
Thanks in advance for your advice !

If you google Motels in either place you will get a selection.
Not much in
Newman is just a
mine town.

You could try here for upmarket in
Newmanhttp://www.miamia.com.au/
Apart from the
mine, the
visitor centre and the
lookout, which was nice at
night with all the
mine lights we didnt see much else Im afraid.
Some nice country around it if you are into off road.
Cheers,

G'day everyone
No doubt about it ~ just a
mine town !!
Graham H ( QLD ) what a crying shame you did not research your travells just a tiny little bit more regarding
Newman, there is far more to the town and the region than even you obviously believe or think you know.
Accommodation is at times a premium with a price to match ~ but who am I to pre suppose what a person is looking for in that respect ?

According to the history of
Newman it was built by the mining company for its own use and later sold to the shire for $1
Yes it has all the things you say but so do most other towns or they wouldnt be a town.
It also has the only ladies hairdresser for several hundred k's and she does a good job as
well.
The two days we stayed there were dark and cool and a bit wet and windy so we didnt think it was as nice as
Tom Price for instance.
Due to its remoteness things are expensive IE a tyre in Port Hedalnd was $110 in
Newman an identical one $130.
After having owned a restaurant we prefer to eat at home.
So while it has all the things you say and I agree it still owes its exsistance to the
mine or it simply wouldnt be there.
Its all in the perception and everyones is different We kike
Denham ,you may not.
Cheers

Gidday
Graham is a bit hard on
Newman .. it is a
mine town for sure but if you read today's West Australian you will see it is a lot better than it was. There is a far bit of tourism activity in the area but summer is NOT the best time for that.
I have stayed at the The Seasons Hotel and found it ok. Has a pool which might be welcome.
Cheers Rocco

Don't know about
Newman but Port Headland is very expensive, $200 a night for a cabin at the caravan
park.
As the mining mobs all run 24/7 on 12 hour shifts 5am and 5pm sees the parks resounding to the beeps of reversing buzzers as the workers come and go.
Constant noise of the ore loading terminals as
well.
Might be quieter out at Sth Headland but they seemed to score the dust from the prevailing wind.

They are not really intersted in tourists . At
Newman I paid $180 for 2 nights for a single donga with my own ensuite and tv. Ok but cramped and really basic
