Yesterday ExplorOz friends arrived for a visit and we had an interesting time trying to fit the F250 and Bushtracker rig through our back
gate. Last time they were here some 3 years ago, the garden was less overgrown and they were towing with a GU Nissan and the manoeuvre wasn't so bad. Access to our yard is from a reasonably wide Laneway ( 2 B doubles can pass) at the rear of the property.
At first we tried driving the rig into a neighbours yard and then reversing in but could not get the right angle as there was not enough space. Then back around the block to attack from a different reversing angle. That didn't work either. Then back around the block to try to drive in. Lotsa 'Go!' and 'Whoa' commands with the ladies also putting their 2 bobs worth in...lol....but no go again! So reverse back out......... but this time the rig jacknifed.
Sooooo...we had to unhitch the van, drive the F250 into the yard (it was alread halfway in the
gate), get the ole GQ out of storage, change Hayman Reece tongue over, hitch the Bushtracker and fit the whole caboodle into the yard. Then it was time for a cool drink!!!!
A few months ago EO friends with 2 x OKA's stayed over. The more I see these big rigs the more I feel that I will stick with a maller travel set-up!!
Cheers

Hi Willem
Don't you love all those modern things, large vehicles, big vans etc. We have never had any problems setting op our overnight set up. Open the back door of the Prado, pull the double swag out of the back door, down with the ground sheet and all set up - simple but comfortable. LOL
Cheers
Stephen

Geez Willem
It's all in the fun of owning a Caravan, we have a minor problem with getting our Van onto our property, we have to reverse it up a slight incline and
park it parallel between the house and some landscape, it use to be a drama when we first got the Van but the more you do it the easier it gets, and quite often I have to hold up traffic whilst I manouver it off the road, some little mothers get a bit impatient if I block the road for 30 seconds but what the heck.

G'day Willem, there is nothing wrong with the turning circle of the F250's.
What you need to understand is your
gate opening is way tooooooo small for the rig.Lol
You might think about putting on another
gate to accommodate these bigger rigs,Hahaha.
Enjoy their company & have a good day.
Cheers,
Bob.

Answer is easy.
Fit a tow point on the front and you solve the manoeuvrability problem instantly. Used to have a tow ball on the front of the old Landrover and we used to get friends ring us up to manoeuvre their vans in or out of difficult yards.
No need to rate it as you will only be travelling at 1/2 Kph when manoeuvring.
Works really
well. You can often put the ball directly on the flat of the bull bar if you have enough room.

Sounds like the 4WD 250, thanks to the front leaf springs it has a 17m turning circle.

We were happy to stay in the Laneway, but the tough ol' GQ wanted to show off by pulling at Bushtracker, which it did with ease. We had a wonderful time.
