projecta air compressor storm- worth it?

72 l/min is a good flow rate. I have the same flow rate from a super cheap pump and find it acceptable for re-inflating tyres after a day of fun at lower pressures. With mine, if I try to re-inflate an extra 2 tyres on my caravan it will heat overload and need a rest for a while so I suggest it is really designed for the occassional use warrior. Going from 16 or 18psi to 40psi may just be about the limit on 4 tyres but if it is, just pump the tyres back to say 35psi and let the servo pumps do the rest or just allow extra time as you are coming off the beach depending on how the Repco pump goes.

Seems a good price too, for that flow rate.

I have the twin cylinder (Typhoon) version of the Projecta Storm.
It has been excellent but at 600W is rated 150 l/min.

I would think that the "Storm" would get you there but a bit slower.
And at $119 is a good buy.

If you are re-inflating four tyres from 18 to 40 psi you may need to give it a rest halfway to avoid overheating. One way is to inflate all tyres to say 30 psi then drive quietly for 15 minutes to allow the compressor to cool before continuing the inflation to 40 psi. Or better still take a short walk for 15 minutes.

I have the same compressor and paid $165 from ebay for it. The Repco $119 is in my opinion a good price.
As mentioned it is more for occasional use but i would recommend getting one. I never realised how convenient a compressor is around the block.

Flow rates dont mean much as they are taken without a tyre attached.
Its a bit like reving the engine in neutral.
For about $135 Bushranger sell a pump that will pump your tyres all the way without a rest.
They did quite well for the price in the 4wd action comparison a few months back
The cheapies will let you down when you need them the most.

I have the Projecta Typhoon which is rated the one above the Storm. It is a great unit. If I were you, I would spend the extra dollars on the Typhoon or equivalent. I have found it a great compressor for the price. (I think I paid around $160? a couple of years ago) Having just returned from up north where we did a fair bit of beach driving, I found I could inflate 6 tyres, including trailer, in hot weather, from (at one stage) 15 to 40 lb without it even protesting, overheating or cutting out. Perhaps the Storm might struggle to do the same.
