gps not working

hi, any clever people out there able to help me i have a magellan explorist xl gps . the thing will not turn on i have replaced the batteries but still no success i have a topigraphal maps card ,but nothing works appreciate any help. thanks

Does it turn on without the card....????
Try it using cigarette lighter connection...(maybe batts)

Check you have latest firmware 9.1.55 from magellan if you get it going...

Shreder,

I had a similar thing happen with mine, changed batteries, tried it on mains power then I finally took out the SD card pressed the start button, then it fired up no worries. Try it it might work.

Check direction of battery insertion. I know on some of the earlier models you can be tricked by the requirement to insert batteries in a different direction into the same clips ie the clip does not give the clue as to the direction of battery insertion.

HI shreder

I have a little cheapy from Laser ???? may be nothing like what you have, all the same it stopped working so I searched out the instructions looked under trouble shooting ...and found it has a reset button on the back.I connected to power pressd this button with the end of a pen and problem solved ...hope this is all that is wrong with yours

No reset button Brian..To do a restart you need to get into the menu function...

What terrible advice,Magellan have one of the BEST Topo maps going arourd...Do you BIN Garmin GPS's because the Garmin Aus Topo is crud...????

Hi Shreder, is it possible that is its turning on but the screen is dead? For instance could you 'turn it on' and plug it into your computer and see if you can access it via the computer?doc.
