Hi all,the black box in front of the air cleaner in a 99 hilux 3ltr what does it do ?. can i remove it and put a battery there. is,it a charcoal filter.thanks.....

I think it is an anti reverberation/vibration box that is designed to keep noise level created by air induction at low levels. It was an option on some Hiluxes and has been fitted by Toyota as an aftermarket product. Take it off and see if engine noise goes up. This will tell you if it is one of these.
