Had to jack the truck up to- day to replace a wheel bearing, and bugger me if the 2t bottle jack i've had for twenty years stuffed up, seals blown',oil everywhere!.....can't complain after all that time, but one thing though you cant trust things to much, it lifted the vehicle, but also came down pretty quick to!, pays to keep the head out from underneath a jacked up truck as much as possible!!, me beginning to think..lol.
Cheers Axle.

Axle,
That would have to be the Defender one ,wouldn't it?
Toyota haven't worked out how to make a hydraulic jack that works, they still use screwjacks that were invented even before the first Landrover S1 was thought about.
LOL
Disco.

Of course it was the Landrover jack - it was the one leaking oil everywhere, er, marking its territory :-)
Yep, I'll have a screw jack over a hydaulic anyday - virtually maintenance free for a bit of kit that you hardly ever use but depend on when you do need it! I also find them much faster than a the hydraulic jacks.
Mind you, when I had to change a tyre on a coach I was thankful it had a hydraulic jack and not a screw jack - it was a little more than 2.5T!

Not so sure about that Graham?, The screw jack supplied with my 100series, with all its little bits with the extension handle is nothing short of being pathetic!!., It all needs to be twice the size!, Jack inclued.
Cheers Axle.

Spot on get outmore, my parents has 3 vals I had 3 of them, when bumper bars were real and made of steel, put the jack under them and the bumper would take the whole weight of the vehicle back or front end, use to use the tyre lever to jack it up and down, they took up a bit of room in the boot but they did have a huge boot, bit shallow but.....Ah the good old days, no air or steer, wondered all over the road under hard braking but boy did they tow
well, big stroke, 245, 265, then my last was a CM with a 318 V8 that did have air and steer, the front bucket
seat were like my seats in my lounge room at home LOL Regards Steve M

yes never trust ANY lifting gear - new or old -- always use stands after all accidents don't happen over a 5 min period they happen instantly and when not expected

Hi All
When ever I jack the 4wd up to change a tyre I allways place the wheel under the edge of the vehicle, if the jack moves, you don't end up with the vehicle sitting on the ground.

i do that in addition to the stands --- don't care if it falls on the floor -- rather not have it fall on my lap / head
