HI Jack, Theonly time an A/C would need re gasing is if a pipe has fractured, which would need repairing. The answer is yes you should be able to get it regased. Wont be cheep though.

If it is still on R12 then it is possible to have it converted to R134A or just use a drop in replacement gas, either way if it needs "regassing" then it has to be repaired as previously stated it has a leak somewhere.

R12 and R134a compressors are different , you may be able to use dupont MP52 OR 54 R134a is not good in an R12 compressor

If it's an R12 unit, it must be ancient... ;-))
But if it is R12, then refrigerant SP34E is a "drop in" for R12 on coolrooms etc, so should be OK in the Dometic. Current regulations stipulate that the leak MUST be repaired, which can be difficult in small systems but nonetheless must be pursued.
It may not be a refrigerant issue at all, it may just need cleaning.... it would pay to get it serviced anyway.
Cheers
Brian

Thanks all. I have heard of pipes fracturing but we are not moving atathe moment and it was working
well last week. Guess I'll go have it looked at.
Cheers and thanks

Hi bushpig,
Not a problem getting it regassed, done it many a time.
If it is on R12, R409 is a replacement gas for it.
You can retrofit to R134a, but the system will need to be flushed out and the mineral oil in the compressor removed and replaced with synthetic.
I would have thought it would be on R22 which is not a problem to purchase at the moment.
Although it is being phased out.
The new air cond systems are now R410 which is the new standard.
This gas can not be use in an old system as it runs at very high pressures.
Regards Bob

Hi Jack - I have replied on the other
forum. As yours is a recent van (i think), it is most likely a warranty issue.
