Poly air bag pressures?

Gidday

I have a Prado with quite a bit of gear added to it. Occasionally I also tow a camper van, which weighs approx 1.3t loaded.

I’d be interested to hear what pressures others are using.

Regards

Kim

Hi Kim

I use 8psi around town and unloaded.

On a long trip with a full load in the back and on top (no trailer - yet) I've used up to 17psi to keep everything level. The vehicle would be pretty close to gvm in this configuration.

On one trip I went as high as 25psi - I had a slow leak, and this pressure was sufficient to get me through the day. Probably not ideal for any period of time.

George

Come any closer and I'll rip your throat out!

Just read on their website the max should be 30psi. I used to run about 25psi when I was loaded up.

Don't use them anymore since I have a leak in both

Hi , I have them in the Pajero NF rear coils, and I run about 15lb when loaded for a desert run, tents, fridge, genny etc etc, and I find 18lb sufficient for the loaded van ( Jayco Eagle) with the load leveling bars on,
I just run them at 5lb empty, have had them 9 years now and no probs.
Cheers Des,

I used to have the black Poly Air bags on the rear of my Jeep and ran them at 40 psi to keep the caravan level. Min pressure specified was 10 psi to prevent the bags from pinching when deflated and max was 100psi. Trial and error really.

Kim, we found that sometimes when driving into Port Hedland from the station, in the Patrol, we still had the 20 psi in the polys. With the weight of the patrol, it still didn't seem to skatey in the R-send on the gravel, if ya know what I mean.

cheers Unc

Hi Kim,

We have a 98 Prado and towed a Trak Shak camper for 6 months last year with our 2 kids. I already had medium duty Old Man Emu coils but with drawers in the back with tools, recovery gear, fridge, food etc AND towing the fully loaded trailer we needed some help. The Polyairs fixed that, I ran them at their max of 30psi and had no dramas. Around town know I use 5 to 10 psi.

Cheers,

Mark.

In my LC100 I run 6psi most times and 15-25psi when loaded and/or towing. I try and follow the manufacturers guidelines when possible and pump em up to 30psi before I load up, then deflate them till I am level again after loading, But I do forget sometimes and it doesn't seem to matter if you pump em up after.

I use a small bike pump cause they don't take much air and would be easy to overinflate with a compressor (mine polyairs have a max 30psi rating).
