Advice required please. Is it a realistic proposition to plan a descent of Zeka Spur with an off road camper trailer. I have been up the spur once, but without a CT. If it is, is it then ok to tackle Herne Spur on the climb-out heading for Mount Cynthia and Grant?

It should be OK on the tracks that you mentioned, a lot depends on the if it has been wet. It is fairly steep & rocky in sections with a few washouts but certainly 'doable'.

Both tracks have been graded since the fires a couple of years ago however I would not reccomend driving out via Herne spur , it is very steep , and certainly not if wet at all.
Zeka spur is a lot easier and you could normally go in /out that way but with care if wet.

Zeka Spur is possible with an camper trailer in tow. There is a tight hair pin bend that you might have to back up a bit to get around and a steep/rough section about half way down.
I lead a convey of vehicles all with campers down the Zeka Spur last year and they all made the track with out a problem. However I was in front of the convey and advised them of what the road conditions were like.
As for driving up Herne Spur. The lower section is very steep after a few river crossings and if you don't get it right it would be very challenging to reverse a camper to a safe place to stop to have another go at the climb. From memory it is about Ikm of very steep climb. After that the track does flatten out a bit but will have some steep sections and at the top a right hand turn on to Wombat range track.
When I take a trip that has campers I would use
Water Spur which would connect with Tea Tree Range and then on to Racecourse Track. This way bypasses the steep climb to Cynthia track and the steep decent down Station track.
Tea Tree Range track joins Pioneer Racecourse Track and then follows the river around to a crossing which will take you to
Talbotville and from there up McMillan track to grant.
This area is not a place to tow a trailer up or down some of the good tracks but to set up a base
camp and do day trips.

Coming down Zeka Spur in the dry is not particually difficult with a trailer. There are several tight switch backs that depending on the length of drawbar may need to jack knife to get around. There are also a couple of clay decents that are very slippery in the wet & have seen 2 cars roll there. A few erosion control ditch's may catch out a low vehicle or tailer.
If your vehicle is that in the photo (RB30 Patrol) then I'd stay
well away from Herne spur. It is by far the steepest exit from the Valley & you would be sure to run out of power even in Low 1st. Wombat spur is slightly better & have travelled with turbo Cruisers towing up there but if you met oncoming traffic you'd have no way of restarting on the slope. Hart Spur is a little easier but has very big ditch's & not one to tackle without reasonable clearance.
Best option to tow out of Wonnangatta is via the Wonnangatta track & East Buffalo road. There are also options to cut across to Hotham Via Mt Selwyn &
the Twins Jeep Track all suitable for towing.
On a side note there are lots of trees falling in the High Country many with awkward detours around. Chainsaw would be good insurance.

Thank you everyone for your good advice. Since I did the first post my partner has dropped out so would only be solo vehicle. I will give Wonangatta a miss this year!
