Hello all

Need some simple realistic advice for cruiser diesel 200 series, driving will be around town mon to friday, open highway weekends. So what are the fuel consuption figures people are getting around town, not towing anything no roof rack etc.

By the way any one had any experience with the Lexus 450H, driving up the beach etc.

thanks in advacne

Hi Turbo Lux

I have the 200 TTD GXL and weekdays I use it for the 25km drive to work (mix of peak hour freeway crawl and crowded city streets) and average around 12.5L/100kms. On a good day with light traffic and green lights I have seen as low as 10.9l/100kms, but this is rare. I have also seen 14L/100kms on very busy days. Right now my tank (over 1/4 full) has averaged 13.4L/100kms for 750kms of city driving, this is worse than normal as I have lately done a lot of short trips.

My 200 is modified with suspension lift, roo bar, larger tyres, roof bars, 60L water tank etc... which all impact on its economy so I would expect you to get at least 10% better on a stock model.

On a flat open road without towing, I will easily get less than 11L/100kms and the engine sits on 1500rpm at 100km/hr. I have had the gearbox flash upgrade (Toyota upgrade) so it uses 6th from ~95 km/hr onwards now.

When I tow my camper trailer, I will typically get ~16L/100kms, but if the route is hilly this can easily go greater than 18L/100kms and beyond, but the cruise control doesn't budge from 100km/hr no matter how steep the hill :) The V8 TTD engine would have to be the sweetest, most powerful engine I have ever driven in a 4WD. It re-defines the word effortless when towing.

One thing to note about the fuel economy is that it is the most sensitive diesel vehicle I have ever owned on how you drive it. Go gentle and it will sip the fuel, but use all that horsepower and it will swallow it like there is no tomorrow - you have to pay for all those ponies somehow.

Cheers

Hi TerraFirma,

I haven't had any Injector/pump issues at all. In the early days, the TTD's had a recall for an injector pump software update that occasionally caused stalling when stopping. Mine was updated, but I never had the issue occur. On LCOOL I have only heard of one 200 that had an injector issue and that from memory was an outback vehicle that occasionally used drum fuel.

Hi Lux,

also have a 200TDI - once get over the price shock it's fine! Agree with all of the other comments - also had the 6th gear cut in rectified. Only issue is oil consumption. Done 30000km and now Toyota got me on an oil watch which they conduct.I used 2 litres in 10,000 - excessive I believe.Complained in firts 5000km and told me it will settle at about 15000. It hasn't.I believe it is an issue with the oil pump?

Inter city economy is good sitting on 100 - 110 achieve the claimed 10.3 litres /100km.

Good luck

Hi Gouger,

I had the vacuum pump mod done at the 20K service after having to top up the oil between the 10-20K service, so in went the pump mod. While it has reduced the oil consumption, it has not eliminated it. I used just over 1/2 the dipstick (approx 500ml) of oil from the 20-30K service. Using 1/2 litre in 10,000kms is fine by me and I am happy with the outcome.

Thanks Capatain. I am using Castrol Magnates 10w/40 - as supplied by dealer.Made in Malaysia on the pack. I have been considering going for a slightly higher viscosity. Hopefully they will do that modification soon - Toyota are tardy on rectifying faults. I complained to dealer and Toyota about 6th gear. They didn't tell me there was a modification - the local ARB in Abbotsford did that!

Cheers
