Hi all,
Has anyone ever replaced the bearing on the Air Con compressor on an 80 series?
Mine is a little noisy when the air con if off however once the aircon is on and there is load on the bearing it quietens up.
Air con works very vell, just the bearing that holds the pulley is a little noisy/worn.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Just go to any aircon
shop and they will do it for you. If you want to do it youself the bearing is available at any bearing
shop.
You will need to remove it so they can measure it
From memory it has some tabs that have to bent out .
You also need a large pair of suitable circlip pliers
Toyota will only sell you the whole clutch pulley for $300.
Are you sure its the aircon pulley and not the idler? Idler new is about $70

Ross,
I replaced the idler pulley not too long ago as it was rattly. I checked it again last night and it's perfect. The Pulley on the compressor is a little rattly now, but goes quiet under load.
Thanks for the reply.

Rob, It goes quiet "under load" because when the A/C clutch is energised to engage the A/C then both sides of the clutch are rotating together and the bearing between them is not active. Of course the bearing on the compressor shaft is still active. Clearly then, the clutch bearing is faulty and should be replaced as per
Ross' advice.
