We have a satelite tv dish with a Decoder and we would like to know where you can buy the cards for free to air channels. At the moment we can only get ABC but on screen says we have to get a card to be able to receive 7/9/10. We have tried the local Optus stores but they say they dont sell and have never heard of such cards. At the moment we are in
Wollongong NSW travelling to ACT on Monday. if anyone can give us any insight in to this it would be a great help . Thankyou in advance .
Cheers lesley & Geoff

Hi justmyage
I have been through this some months ago. Sorry to dissapoint you but you cannot buy cards just for free to air. You must purchase a paytv such as optus or activat8me or some other.
They optus do not allow you to use their cards in a caravan. I have been told if you but optus for home, get a second card and don't tell then it's for your van.

We have had a free to air satellite set-up in our van for years with an Optus card. In my experience this is how it works. To obtain a card you have to live in or provide an address for an area that is considered by Optus to not have good terrestrial TV reception, Optus has,or seems to know these boundaries. I purchased my Optus card from a dealer who sells satellite equipment for $100.00, we live just outside the
boundary. The card has a number on it and you then have to set the system up with the card installed in the Set Top Box, ring Optus and have the card activated before it will work. The problem is they only allow you the commercial channels in your state, although I have been told you can now have Imparja for a fee. This is a problem when travelling in the east as the programmes are 2-3 hrs behind with daylight saving etc. Hope this is of some help.

You could try www.accessantennas.com.au
An Optus card is $99 and gives you 7 central and Imparja in the centre and the east and when you move into WA you are supposed to ring up and tell them and they switch those off and you get GWN and WIN .
You could do a search for Gold or white cards on the net and get everything.
Cheers

Hi all
This sat tv restriction thing is a real pain. In these days of technology improvements the Govt should act to improve this pathetic system that we all have to try and work around.
There are over 500,000 people travelling on the road at any one time. Once again the punter is subjected to the rules and regs of vested interests.
Come on Minister catch up with the 21st Century and sort out this mess.
In Europe Sat TV is free......

You forgot something mate
You are in Australia where nothing is free if the government can think of a way of sucking money out of you.
At the risk of missiles even in good old NZ we havent had Stamp Duty for about 30 years.
Would live in WA except for the 4%
Cheers
