Pro Comp tyre AT Xtreme

I am looking only, at the moment, at these tyres, has anyone got any feedback please.

I am NOT interested in what tyre you like/use/prefer, I am just wanting feedback on these please, first hand and from those that know them.

Cheers Colin.

Hi Col,

i have Pro Comp Muds on my 100 and cannot rave about them enough. i cant imagine the A/Ts will not impress. i will also be looking at the Extreme Mud for mine next as they only have 6mm or less on them. they have done many trips, been mistreated ( wrong pressures on gibber etc) and are fairly chopped up now, no lugs or anything missing just chopped up. i will have to update them before my next trip as i have had such a good run from them,NEVER had puncture! Hopefully someone that is running that style will chime in and let you know what they think of them.

Thanks Paul,
Jason Total Care 4WD, raves about them & uses them in various comp vehicles he sets up.

I will get the VHC trip out of the way in Jan and by then my current rubber will probably be in need of replacement after that. They will still have some life in them but they will be religated to spares only.
Cheers Colin.

Hi Colin,

I had Pro Comps on my GQ about 6 or so years ago..... the first set I put on were great, good K's, comfortable and near indestructible, the second set I bought.... about 2005 I think, were nowhere near as good IMO. They were "rough".... like they were out of round.... and didn't wear as well or last as long, chipped etc and also staked one on the least likely looking bit of deadwood you ever did see. I have since changed to BFG's and I find they're OK. Having said that, I have spoken to many people who still rave about the Pro Comps, so perhaps I was unlucky enough to get some from a bad batch.

Cheers

Brian

The 'Extreme' version of the Procomp has only been available to my knowledge in the smaller sizes (under 35") for a couple of years & is a very different contruction to other models in their range so probably shouldn't be compared. They certainly have a very tuff sidewall & are ideal for outback touring. I have the Extreme mud terrains & find them excellent on all surfaces. Don't know anyone with the All terrain pattern.
Cheers Craig............

My son has Procomp X Terrain on his Toyota Surf. He is running 33x10.5x15 and to date has done 105,000 Km on them . Despite being a bit noisy on the bitumen, they are great on the beach/sand/rocks/gravel roads etc and has not had any problems with them. They still have about 5000km left on them. They are rated for speeds up to 160KMH. For me , I will change over to the ProComp A/T tyre when the time comes mid 2010.

That sounds hard to believe for a set of 33" chunky tyres .
Also considering the speedo will be out by 20%, believe me I have the same problem.
105k would be 126,000kms. Unless the speedo has been recalibrated.

Well extravagant as it may sound, 105,000 km is 100% accurate. And they are not a "chunky" tyre. Also he is a very conservative driver. The speedo is 100% accurate as it has been checked against three different brands of GPS units. Its running 4.37 front and rear differentials as against the standard 4.1s. Tyre pressures are run at 40 PSI and 20PSI on the beach. As the Surf weighs on at 1875KG its not as heavy as the Patrols/Landcruisers, plus I have been in the motor trade with the BMC corporation, then British Leyland before its demise in the 1970s, and recently retired 18 months ago.
My`96 4Runner is running Goodyear MTRs and those have done 68,000 and still have another 15,000 Km left on them. I believe that the longevity of our tyres is partly due to the way we drive, and how we look after them. The MTRs are far more aggressive and "Chunky" than the ProComp X terrain - also 80% noisier then the X terrains.

I was advised that the extreme mud would be the best tyre for a simpson crossing, you may know of Darren from lcool, he would be the man to get in contact with for feedback, as he keeps detailed info on what trouble they have had with what brand tyres, on the many crossings of the deserts he has lead. He sells tyres and suspension and tests all of the above to breaking point, and in his words, he hasnt managed to break an extreme mud yet :)
