Victorian High Country

Thinking of taking a camper to the high country, going in from Jindabyne and working down to Omeo and ultimately finishing down at Woods Point.

At this stage, specifically looking for some advice if we would be able to take a camper on the pink track in the following.

ML,

Crossing the Murray should be OK.
When you cross the river don't drive in a straight line from entrance to exit. Instead drive where you can see the water flowing over the rocks. It will be on the down stream side, which means that you will have to drive down the river just out from the bank for a about a vehicle length, then you can swing around to the left.

The climb up to Mt Hope is very steep in places and can be narrow.
The conservation mounds can also be steep and a few vehicles have dragged there tow bars over them in the past. There is not a lot of room to pass an oncoming vehicle on this part of the track so proceed with caution.

Once you have reached the top of the climb and leave the national park the track then follows along the ridge and is reasonably flat but also very windy.

A 4.2 TD certainly has. the power to pull up that steep section of hill & the trailer enough clearance. The long drawbar would see it dragging over some of erosion ditchs but more than possible if not overloaded. Problem with towing in the Vic High Country is after rain many tracks become alot harder, even dangerous & the clay hill out of Tom Groggin is no exception.
In general this year we are seeing many trees down accross the tracks and often there are awkward detours around them for those towing.
Have fun, cheers Craig.....
