A question for you learned camper trailer owners. A mate of mine has recently bought a Cub Camper (Spacematic model I think).
When he tows it behind his VW Jetta it will sit rock solid on the road right up to 110km/r and he isn't aware that it's there.
He has just bought a 2002 Pajero as his 'bush car' and when the camper is behind the Mitsi it wanders all over the place and develops a speed wobble over 90 km/hr.

Any ideas?

Hi Landed Eagle,

Ive got a 1999 Cub spacematic and a 2007 pajero. It sits solid and steady and is a pleasure to tow.

I think it would be a balance issue with your friends car. Check the wieght distrubution.

If it only does it with the Paj, my cub sits a little down in the front as the pajero was low (from where it tows from) I got a different towing tongue which raised the front a little.

Cheers Wilko

I own a cab camper and had a 2002 Pajero and it towed the same behind that car as it has behind three others I have towed it with.

It sounds like the draw bar weight is incorrect. Like the trailer is back heavy.

Cheers Scoof . :-)

Without seeing the unit hitched up, my guess would be the hitch height, that is its either that the camper front is higher or lower on the Paj, my guess would be higher, either would change the whole balance of the Van.

I'll second this. We had a similar episode with a box trailer- towed fine behind our two cars for years, then one trip- we had no end of trouble. In the end we discovered that by putting on a different profile of tyre(we had replaced the tyres in preparation for the next trip), we had inadverantly lowered the height of the trailer, and this caused all the problems. cheers, doc.

Yes towball height was my guess, i have always worked on the info i got many
years ago that the front of your trailer/van should be 2 inches lower than the back.
Never had an issue using this advice.
I too tow a cub supermatic behing my landcruiser and dont know its there.
