Hi All
I'm interested in giving gold prospecting a go
As we're in
Perth, we were thinking up around Kalgoorlie
Does anybody know any good websites/links where we can get some more information?
Thanks

Not quite as simple as rocking up and picking the stuff up. If you haven't already done so, you need to spend the summer months doing some research. You need to decide where you can go NOT where you would like to go, how to obtain permission to enter specified areas, what equipment you can use not what you'd like to use, is your transport and accomodation (van, tent, motorhome etc) up to the rigours of very rough country, often very isolated and if you intend to use a detector, what make, model etc. How much to spend on that (up to $6,000 - $8,000) if unfamiliar with the area(s) you intend to visit, should you seek the
services of a gold detecting trip (with guide etc - will cost you money) in order to familiarise yourself with both equipment and techniques. As you can now probably understand, to be successful you do need to put some time into planning and preparation for a trip to the area in question. By the way, generally find that prospectors with any common sense stay completely out of the desert/remote area during summer. Far too hot and likely to result in dehydration or even death for the unwary.
Have a look at the accompanying
LINK it is a very good and informative sight. You will need to register to access it fully but that's not a problem. You will find pretty much everything you will need to know about the subject of finding gold. Good luck with your venture.

Hi
While I don't disagree, I'm not completely green.
You're words of caution will be taken on board, but I'm not some city sligger trendy thinking it'll be a quick buck. It'd be more of a working holiday (not in the heat either).
Thanks

Thanks Jack & DIO, good info.
Ozwasp, as yourself, I'm researching detectors, areas to go, do's and dont's ready for a trip in the cooler months next year.
May be all us novices should get together organise a trip and hunt as a pack.
Even better, make it an official EO trip / gathering, a prize to the person who finds the most rusty railway spikes....lol.
Cheers.....Lionel.
