Question time again ...

I am trying to free up some space to mount a tool box on the Tardis's A frame - Currently the spare lies flat on it ..
If I put one of these
Wheel Carrier bolted on the opposite side to the Jockey wheel on the A frame am I endangering life and limb and being illegal or are these things pretty safe to use ?

Any info is good info

A bit low unless you have small wheels.

Jayco have one which is a bit higher and Camec sell ones which are high enough that a 15 in wheel would not be below the rail of the A frame.

A boat trailer place would also sell one which is normally fixed to the post that the boat winch is on Have seen one of these on the A frame of a Coromal poptop

Cheers

Hi Mandrake. Have a look at the Tvan set up. They have overcome the problem by putting a bracket at 45 degree angle over the fuel carrier/ gas bottles. You undo a screw in the centre of the spare and slide the spare down to the A frame. Stand the wheel up and roll it forward to the ground. Then in reverse to reload the Flat spare. If it is too heavy, you roll it onto a block and then up onto the A frame. lay it down and slide it back up and fix in place. It's not hard work for a 73 year youngster like me. It will give you room for a tool box. Cheers Steve. B...

If you can mount the spare underneath I have a wind up tyre coupling off an old ute that you can have, just needs winding rod [not hard to make]. You could mount it at the rear of the pod and would possiblly help balance the trailor when tool box is fitted. MM me if you want it.

Murray ,

Thanks for the offer but thats where I moved the wheel from and put it on the drawbar .. There's provision under the rear for it but it didnt come with the chain lifter doody and I couldn't hold the wheel up to do up the holding bolt !! So I had it moved ..

I think what I should do is weld a good steel box on the drawbar and then mount the wheel upright against the front face of the box ..

I'm gunna go see a welder friend and see what he can do

Cheers

Its the thing your calling the chain lifter doody that I have, you place tyre on ground put centre peice in wheel and wind up. You could weld it were the original fitting was.
