The search for Griing Spring (and claiming a remote confluence) - Video

Griing Spring is one of those “approximately” marked locations on the maps of our remote outback. It sits in the dune country of the Great Sandy desert several kilometres to the north east of Joanna Spring. I am unsure of the history surroundings its discovery and it’s one of those things that even a Google search doesn’t return results on! Our search on the 20th June this year took us from the pans of Joanna Spring on a zig zag course across large, steep sided dunes and through thick, old growth spinifex. We believe we were successful in our endeavours locating an area surprisingly like Joanna Spring although very dry. The spring area itself was hemmed in by much higher dunes than Joanna and sat metres higher in altitude. This probably accounted for water draining away more readily.

Continuing our odyssey into the wilds of the GSD, this video clip covers a bit of action about Joanna Spring in the early morning as we buried a cache and then takes us on our search for Griing Spring. It follows with our eventual arrival at our first ever confluence. This 10 kilometre trip cost us 8 stakes in all. A high cost but one that didn’t daunt us. Most were filled with plugs which kept us moving until further down the track. The night was spent at the turnoff to the Pegasus drill site.

Mick

You need to start sharing those plot files.....

They are something I can waste a day, looking at and replaying then to see how the tack speed was.

Up to you :-)

Cheers

Richard

Looks like you found some good traveling partners.

Nice video.

Out of interest, how did your coordinates compare to the geoscience place name?

Very interesting, but I could hardly hear what was being said on the video over the background music :/

Mick I hope you celebrated my birthday as well. LOL

Good videoing. What I do notice is that because you are videoing from inside the car it makes you look like you are driving like Steve McQueen.

Keep them coming always enjoy your trip reports etc.

Probably because I've got the camera zoomed forward a bit. Hadn't really noticed it in mine but had seen it in other videos. Hardly fast country out there Dunc. My blue eyed good looks explain the Steve McQueen thing Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. ;-)

A good way to keep the passion alive Michael. As you know, I had J & S here for a couple of days and finally sat down and watched all the hours of video in High Defenition. I was gobsmacked as I'd only seen it in low res WMV conversions. It was amazing. The colours and clarity were excellent. I almost started packing on the spot LOL. Who knows, next year could be the year of the dragon!!

Cheers Pesty. Yep they're hard to keep on the straight and narrow but we managed. They're off to the high country now for their Ulti gathering.
