Hi Mal,
Most of the time this is an all weather track. You can sit on 80 to 100km/hour. It is a good drive. North of Balcanoona a little slower. Good NP camp site at Montecollina Bore on track proper. I use it all the time - good facilities within the Dunes.
North to Innamincka I always reccomend the Old Strez track; however you may wish to visit or rather pass Moomba. Closed and no fuel.
Get back if you need more info.

Yep I agree with what Mike says. Have a look at old Waukaringa mine site about 45km north of Yunta. I did the track north of Bacanoona about 8 months ago and it was slow going with washouts for a bout 20km. No doubt the grader has been through since then.

Mal,

I travelled the old Strzelecki Track 4 weeks ago on the way from Tibooburra to Innamincka. Overall the track is very easy going. During our trip we had to take quite a few easy to follow sidetracks due to water over the main track. I don't recall how long that sector took us as we stopped lot to just look around and enjoy. The trip from Tibooburra to Innamincka, about 400 KM took us a day. The Old Strzelecki is the only part of that route that is not in the graded higway category and from memory is only about 50 KM in length.

We towed an off-road caravan and had no trouble.

Cheers

Hi Mal, I hail from Mid North so I usually make Monte. Bore for first night. Old Strez track is short but interesting and you should be in 'Mincka by lunch day 2. I go on to Coongie to camp that night. As you can see from my rig - speed is not what I do! Have you thought about coming back via the Bore Track? From just E of Cullymurra Waterhole down to Bollards Lagoon? Pay $10 at Bollards Lagoon. Lovely trip. Navigation easy except for 2 spots were Oil Rig roads cross.
As Kevin suggests(above) you could dog leg to Tiboburra via Camerons Corner, and return via The Hill and Barrier Highway. Should all fit in to 7 days with a couple of spares?
Let me know if you need more info.
