Evening all, Finally got around to changing the split rims on the troopy to one piece black steels with 265/75/R16 on them. The biggest surprise to me was the ride quality, it is like the vehicle has new suspension. The power has dropped just a tad but that is OK and is expected with wider tyres.
Thanks to all for your input in helping me trying to decide. The splits now go on the camper trailer.

Cheers

Yea, she must feel a whole lot more stable now too. My 75 series certainly did when i changed over. It really is a whole lot safer in alot of ways i reckon. Split rims definitely do have there place in the bush though.

hi mark
i used to run split rims with 235x85/16 but was having trouble with tubes rubbing on inside
i changed to 7'' rv rims with no tubes as i like the smaller tyres for off roading
they also handle ok on road 7 out 10 i also have original mags which come with 265x70/16 which handle better 9 out 10
anybody looking for a set of 5 stud splits lol
happy motoring cheers reggy2

Hi Reggy, With the one piece rims I went with 7" and was tossing up between the 235x85/16 and the 265x75/16. Will eventually get some more one piece rims for the camper and put the tyres from the troopy on them once they have worn down which hopefully will be in a long time. I still think that splits are good in country such as Willem goes in, especially if you can keep them in a covered area in between times so the rust does not build up causing problems with tubes.
