I am looking at travelling with a 4yr old and an infant next March to Port Stephens with our caravan. Can anyone suggest the best Caravan Park for swimming, bike riding, kid entertainment and close to shops cafes etc. So far Shoal and Fingal Bay seem to read the best.

Been to a few there at Pt Stephens.

1 Mile Beach Anna Bay good.
Fingal Bay much better, but can't get T.V reception
Shoel bay no pool, but ensuite has foxtel.
Middle rock Anna bay, didn't really like it at all okay for tents, way down the end will not go back.

Soldiers Point next to the Bowling club, Geat ensuite sites with Foxtel
Pools Okay, Kids adventure bike track, and a nice ball pit and under cover area for the toddler, and a games room. Only problem is it's remote from shops and the price per night Ouch!!!!!! Bowling club is good, for meals.

Soldiers Or Fingal is my pick.

Note theres 2 at Soldiers !!I refer to the one next to the Bowling club.

I'd place a vote for One Mile Beach. It's not a walk to the shops (it's a drive) but the location is fantastic. Pool is excellent as well.

We were there in April and had a terrible job getting van in around the tight roads.
Actually whacked back corner of van on a metal skip left sticking out on one corner

Also havent solved the problem of how to get waste water to run uphill to the

sullage which was up against the wooden wall and higher than the outlet on

the van as the sites ran downhill .

Suggested to staff a hacksaw may help They said the park was to busy to do

it About 6 vans there at the time. JEEZ

Shoal Bay gets my vote. Walking distance to shops and is the closest caravan park to Nelson Bay. Nice, calm beach to swim at.

Halifax is nearer - between Shoal and Nelson Bay. Right on the water too. Nice park - surprised it hasn't been mentioned. It's owned by the same mob that own Shoal, Soldiers and Fingal.

I think Halifax is the closest to Nelson bay, That's the one under the light house nearest the boat ramp. But I have never stayed there (looks okay good for 5th wheelers and bigger vans) . Maybe next time I will stay there, we go twice a year.

Cheers

We also liked One Mile at Anna Bay. Not really walking distance to shops but no problems with bikes. Lovely beach, good pool and hot spa, nice rec room with TV and kitchen.

Which one is most suitable for kids to ride around in the park e.g larger and flatter? I've seen Halifax too, how does that weigh up?

Shoel bay, Soldiers, and Halifax seem to be dead flat.

I never stayed a Halifax but I like it's location, will probably stay there next time. I don't think it has much in the way of things for the kids to do actually in the park itself.

Cheers.

Stayed at Halifax last week for a couple of nights with the kids. Nice park, close to town. It does not have a pool but is right on the beach, there is a nice swimming enclosure next to the park which would be fine for small children. We phoned the one mile beach park and they quoted $67 per night for a powered site with two kids, Halifax charged $45.

Yeah they know how to charge up there, Soldiers PT was $110.00 a night for the ensuite sites For October. We will only stay there in the off peak because of that huge price hike rip off.

Yes Halifax had a good playground, our kids also had a lot of fun riding their scooters around the park.

Fingal Bay is probably about 6km from the centre of Nelson Bay.

Fingal Bay is around a 10 minute drive from Nelson bay, (too far to walk) Halifax around 3 Minutes drive.

What I do sometimes is get on Google Earth and check out the lay of the land,
and how close these places actually are from beaches towns Etc. Sometimes I look at Google Earth and decide not to stay there at all due to congested sites and a mossy swamp next door Etc.

Fingal Has a servo, small store and a Bottlo almost next door if required, the beach is almost a surf beach not great for the kids, but Fingal would have the best pool in my opinion, Very close would be Anna bay that pool is nice as well.

There is a newish sports club / Bowling club close to Fingal as well for meals and such but even that is a drive away ! to far for the kids to walk or carry.
