Hi everyone ,
Finally got around to fitting the 12000 pound ironman winch that I have been tripping over in the shed for the last couple of months (hay season and other excuses). First fitted the control box in bar and thought this is going to be finished in no time until I went to fit the winch. I tried for about an hour on my back all different angles but it was just not going to fit. Had to unbolt the bar and move it a couple of inches forward to get it in. Oh well it was only 10 bolts but just thought it would give others thinking of putting a similar winch into a series 3 patrol bar a heads up.
Cheers Stuart.

Hi Stu, A mate has a 2002 Patrol & firtted a 12,000lb winch from Ironmanto his Patrol before fitting he noticed a placard (sign) on the bar stating "Genuine Nissan bar only fit warn products" Did you do a pre fitting service on the winch? A story getting around is concerning. Apparently a customer with a winch from China (I cannot & won't mention names) went into a ARB store with his winch & asked them to fit it. When they pulled the winch apart to pre service it they found a Fanta Can with Chinese writing on it was flattened out and used as a heat sheild over the motor!!! Some iof these type of winches are very good & there are numerous factories in China making same & exporting them (Generators & Solar panels too) I suppose it's "Lucky dip" with what we buy. Although some imported winches appear to be a direct copy of the Warn Product I preferred to go with the real thing rather than a look alike. Good luck with the winch!!

G'day, the sticker actually says something along the lines of "Airbag compatible bullbar, use only Warn 9000lb winch". I went and looked at mine, but for some reason can't find the sticker, must have fell off.............. It was specific in winch type as well as brand.

I did have it apart to rotate the gear box and checked it all out ,added a bit more grease .Also checked the soleniod box. All seemed to be ok. I know the local ironman dealer which is why I went this way and can spend the other grand on something else LOL.Hear comes the saucepan.

I have an Ironman winch in my current Patrol - Nissan Bar and had the same one in my series 3 patrol as well. Both fitted easily. They have the same footprint as a Warn. The 12000lb Ironman winch is the same size as the 9500. Both were fitted by ironman and they didn't take long to do.

Pretty sure the series 4 to present nissan bars protrude out the front further .I have seen a series 4 bar on a series 3 and there is a fair old gap between the grill and bar so maybe you can get them in on the later one with out unbolting the bar and moving forward. How is your winch going ,no problems !

Going well. Only used occasionally but tested before trips and all ok.

When I fitted the 9500 Ironman to my Nissan the control box mounted on the winch not the bar.

I had no problems with fit, did not have to move the bar. My only problems were the usual Duncs stuff ups.

Hi Stuart, I'm about to install one into a nissan bar myself. I note that it will have to be mounted vertically & the clutch lever will face the rear of the vehicle. Any problems in reaching to engage/disengage ??

Hi Stevo
You will have to rotate the gear box so that the lever is on the top when mounted. The gear box goes on the right hand side of the car.If you can't get the ironman dealer to do this ask them for a how to do .You have to leave the cable ty holding the rope in place and undo the allen keys on the 2 rails (gear box side).Lift the box end of the winch to uncover the 12 or so small allen key bolts on the inside end of the box.Undo these and rotate the housing so that the lever will be nearest the top when mounted vertical.Put back together in reverse making sure not to over titen the small bolts.Hope this helps as I am not to good at explaining things.I also had to make the solenoid box fit the warn bracket that nissan sell to fit series three bar.I also had to move the bar forward to get the winch in.
Cheers and good luck.
