Hi, our names are John & Jenny, we are planning a trip into outback Qld, what we want to know are the road conditions on the Diamantrina Developmental Road from
Windorah to
Bedourie, then on to
Boulia. From there we will take the Kennedy Hwy to
Cawnpore lookout, from there the road to Lake Quarry NP via Old Cork Station then onto
Carisbrooke Station and
Winton.
The two main sections are the
Windorah to
Bedourie and the Old Cork Station road. Has any one travelled these roads and are they suitable for a dirt road caravan. We intend to
free camp as much as possible, have 650 km fuel endurance.
We have a 4WD ute and 20ft Caravan with off road
suspension. intended time of travel July to October 2010

G'day John and Jenny,
The site has road conditions for that area.
Have a look here Outback QLD Road Conditions.
You may get some updates of the sections you are after from comments made in that area. As
well as some from others here on the
forum.
Cheers Kev

Hi
From memory the Diamantina development road is sealed to some way past the turn off to
Birdsville, when I was there last year the
Bedourie /
Boulia road was almost all sealed and probably is by now.
Camp at
Bedourie, showers
toilets and all for free. Spend a $ or to at the local Business's to show your gratitude. Along with
Boulia the people are pleasant and friendly.
From memory the road to Lark Quarry is a typical out back gravel road and as usual can vary from when the road crew were there last and how many road trains moving cattle recently.
Bladensburg NP near
Winton has
camping sites, if you have time drive to the end of the track to Scrammy's
Lookout, my favourite
camp spot, 4WD only and I would not recommend a caravan.
Well worth the view.
Take time out to learn about the Shearers strike and find out why Waltzing Matilda was written. Sure changed my view of the song, I had thought it was just something that Aus Rugby supporters sung in reply to the "Haka"
Heh have fun out there.
