Well the Patrol is getting close to the 40,000km mark and the orginal Bridgestones are just about shot, which is pretty typical, so looking at a tyre upgrade. With 17" rims, choice is a bit limited and expensive. I am also wanting to upgrade
suspension at same time with 2" lift kit. Now the issue is....
Local tyre dealer tells me BFG only make a 17" in All Terrains in the original tyre size i.e. 275x65x17. I was hoping for a slightly taller tyre to compensate for the lift. Cooper make a 265x70x17 in ATR's, which is probably the ideal size for the lifted Patrol. However, I would prefer the BFG's. I can recall speaking to a guy a couple of months ago who had done a lift on his 17" shod Patrol and sourced some taller BFG's from Interstate. ....
Has anyone done this, or is a taller BFG available in a 17" and am I getting a bum steer from the Dealer?

Maybe consider changing to 16"
wheels??
The 17" tyres regardless of brand would be a likely problem to source in remote areas if ever required.

Yes, John I wasnt too happy when I traded the old Patrol with 16" rims on the newie, to discover it had 17's for this reason, however times do change. I was up around Innamninka recently in a mates new Hilux, when we had to get a 15" tyre, couldnt get one. Years ago these were all you get in the bush, Now its 16's, in the not too distant future it could be 17's.

As you can see in the chart the 265x70x17 and 265x75x16 tyres have the same diameter - 804mm. I'd go for the 16" on steel
wheels and leave the alloys in the shed.

265x70x17 is just about the same as 275x65x17, I think.
You can get a Bridgestone 694LT in 275x65x17. I have them.

Hi Spitster, I have the same dilemma as you. Same vehicle , km's etc. I'm looking at going to 16 inch
wheels. Tyres are cheaper and heaps more options, particulalrly when away from the cities.

Its a 50mm OME lift with Nitrocharger shocks. It appears to sit a little higher at the rear but I think this is because I went for the Heavy Duty Springs (250kg constant load). Sits very nicely when loaded up and the camper is attached. Rides very nicely too.
It has the Bridgy 693's still. Am going to go for 694LT's on 16inch black sunraysia's. I've been happy with the 693'a. The only fault with them is they cut on the blue metal roads around here.

I have been disappointed on the original Duellers on my last 2 Patrols, lucky to get 40k out of them. Just out of interest how many k's have you got out of yours?

Fitted BFG AT 285 70 17 to my 05 patrol about 6 months ago. Got just over 80K from the original rubber
Vehicle has a modest 2" lift and castor corection bushes.
Front tyres at full, lock rubbed on the mud flaps. I cut about 12mm out of the inner mud flap mount "L" section and re joined it with a bit of aluminium angle and some self tappers. This pulls the mudflap back and cures the rubbing problem.
Add a Jaycar speedo corrector kit, and everything is sweet.

Something sounds sus there. I had no problem getting them. I'm in
Perth. Bought them through Bob Jane, but they are a national chain.
As long as they are in stock in the BFG warehouse there should be no problem.
