Hi everyone,
I have a 2004 RA Rodeo 3.0 TD, and lately when the car has been running for quite a while and the motor/gearbox etc have warmed up sufficiently, and when I come to a stop, push the clutch in, select neutral and let the clutch out again I sometimes get what I can best describe is a rattling noise coming from the gearbox/clutch, if I then depress the clutch and let it out again the noise goes away.

This noise/rattle is driving me crazy, and I need to get it fixed before our 6 week trip next year.

Any thoughts from forumites as to what could be the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
John

Sounds like the throwout bearing - still have to drop the gearbox to get at it though. Cheers

It could be a Thrust Bearing, a Spigot Bearing or an idler bearing within the gearbox. My old bus (although vastly different to your vehicle) has this almighty rattle when idling. Depress clutch and it goes away. I can't hear it when it is running on the move. I have been told that it is an idler bearing which is encased in a type of holder. When the gearbox oil isn't thrown up on to this bearing, it rattles. Gearbox has been making this noise for 50,000km or thereabouts. A bloke I know with a later moidel Nissan has the same noise in his gearbox. Maybe its a Nissan/Rodeo thing...lol

Best to do is to drop the box and have a look.

Cheers

The wife's Outback had that and I was advised if you are going to have a look you might as well replace the clutch and other bits that goes with it while it's all out.....but I guess it depends on the KM's it's seen.
