Hi all, after many years my beloved turbo 80 is a little to much for a family car,
well without stripping back down to a more user friendly set up for a new bub. Any way getting to the point I am looking at 2005 Volvo XC90, T6 2.9l twin turbo. I dont require a full off road spec vehicle, so please dont go down the capability path. What I need to know is how
well does it tow? I need to be able to comfortably tow a 6.5mtr boat without too much stress. Any info would be great.
Cheers

Might help if you mentioned the official towing capacity of the car, and the weight of your boat.

XC 90 is 136 KW and 400 nm
Commodore V6 is 210 KW and 350 nm
Commodore V8 is 260 KW and 517 nm
For lower purchase price, parts and service costs I'd go with the Holden.
For best performance I'd go with the Holden.
For towing capability I'd go with the Holden V8.
Unless you feel a desperate need to be a Volvo driver...

Sorry - I do not see the point of your post - that is not an XC 90 - a completely different vehicle.

I think if you check with a few more owners you will find they have a history of transmission (auto) failures at around 100,000km.
My neighbour has one and has lost his transmission at 89,000km.
He has been advised by his dealer that the transmission weakness is a known problem.

Hi Hotfishez,
In late 2006 the RACQ Magazine did a comparison test on the following:
(1)Audi Q7 3.0TDI; (2) VW Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI; (3) Volvo XC90 D5.
Conclusion was:
QUOTE Selling points for the XC90 are price, safety, fuel economy and the flexible cabin. But its seats, equipment levels and an engine that lacks some grunt and smoothness drag it down.
The rethink on the Touaraeg has brought some balance to its bottom line and equipment levels. Its performance and off road abilities are also strong. But the chassis doesn’t garner the same respect and its interior has some limitations.
Which leaves the Audi. Better late than ever in this case. Q7 is better than the other vehicles here, particularly in the driving department. It also deserves commendation for build, security, comfort and practicality. UNQUOTE
In my view go for a Q7. But it has an unusually low towball limit:
Audi: Tow Capacity 3500Kg, towball 140Kg
Touareg: Tow capacity 3500 kg, towball 350 Kg
Volvo: Tow capacity 2250 Kg, Towball 350Kg
Hope this is of some interest in a help in making your decision.
Just my 2.2 cents worth (incl GST)
Cheers
