Excellent article on ABS news today about trolling
Probably won't be there long.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/11/26/2754284.htm?section=justin
Just some excerpts to get you to read it.
"ABC News Online this week scrapped its 'Open for Comment' panel in a bid to deter trolls, who constantly start arguments and hurl abuse at other participants."
--
"Reformed troll 'Mozart's Ghost' says many people get into trolling for the "thrill" of it. "You suss out what bothers particular users, get to know them and their weaknesses and play on them," he told ABC News Online. "You try and engage them in some sort of debate based on logic when you don't really care. You'll say anything just to get them to waste their time talking to you. He says more seasoned trolls generally learn how to cleverly word their abuse in order to slip past moderators. You've got to be a lot smarter than that - that's level one of trolling," he said. You've got to get to level five where you're more subtle and subversive where people don't actually know if you're serious or not. It really mucks with people's minds."
Well worth a read on abc.net.au
I had no idea trolling was so organised.

I think that people read too much into what is posted.
I get told often enough that I am arrogant, abusive and speak to people in a derogatory manner. A different point of view within a thread often gets a terse reponse.
Whereas in the past I might have been accused of trolling I have never done so deliberately. These days I am very guarded in what I say :-) The poor dears reading this
forum may get upset!
Cheers

I must agree with you Willem that people do react is somethng is stated they do not agree with, actually I don't mind getting a bit of rejection from time to time as it generally means I am learning something. If I don't have something meaningful to contribute then I don't say anything but I learn a hell of a lot from you guys that have been around the traps.
Did that Fox have a shooters licence Willem - just thought it deserved a comment!

Gday Willem
I find it very hard to believe that you would be thought of in that manner.

"Willem replied:

i think people don't read enough into some of the posts here ...
there are so many double-bind posts im sure national
park rangers pretend to be nomads just so they can use thier fake post to can scream and yell about how someone wants to cart 4.3 tonne of rig thruogh the bush...
btw, i like your posts Will. i think you express
well and come across vanilla even though the issue may be a hot one,
well done....

Willem, I am with you. People often do violently object to other's opinion. I read almost every post to the "Forum" and sometimes venture an opinion.
Mostly (but not always) some do not read the actual post before commenting. I have, at times, been guilty of this myself. Unless I know something to be factual I comment in what I believe to be a constructive manner.
I only wish that I had found out about "Explore Oz" when I was younger and spending more time in the bush. I have learned more from the postings to this
forum than I ever imagined I would.
I wish you happy travelling but reluctantly I have disposed with my RR and now just potter around by car.
Regards
Brian Purdue

Cheers Gramps....lol
That wasn't trolling. Just a bit of humour. I remember copping similar flack for A Pigs Tale and Datsun Cogs. One bloke suggested I be removed from the
Forum for spreading malicious lies. Oh dear...where will it all end :-)

Willem,
Just looking at your pic, where is Hell's
Gate Pass? I used to live in Alice but cannot recall this place.
Cheers.

Off-track
It is on Deep
Well Station, around the back of Mt Ooraminna.
Someone is the distant past decided that this would be a quicker way to move cattle to the Alice and dug the pass out of the
sandstone cliffs
